These days, it’s hard to find anyone around without a cell phone, but majority are unaware of negative effects. A cell phone is a miniscule device that transmits and takes voice calls and often other messages through wireless receiver signals (“Cellular Telephone”). This diminutive telephone has numerous capabilities such as, taking photographs, producing entertainment, and browsing the internet. Cell phones let others voice themselves in an artistic way and philosophically mobile phones represent how we ourselves reflect and benefit though technology. Knowing the history and evolution of a cell phone illustrates how it has impacted society past and present. Steve Mann, the world’s first cyborg who has been inventing wearable computers for twenty years, said that society has become cyborgs, a person whose abilities extend those of humans, through clothing, jewelry, and cell phones (Hylink 34). Ben Hylink illustrates that the populace is becoming more modern and innovative like technology itself. Another philosophy is “m-learning” or mobile learning, which discusses the implementation of cell phones, laptops, and other mobile devices in the learning environment. Through m-learning children are developing new literacies and skills (Sharples, Telan, and Vavula 87). M-learning can support a learning that is “situated, contextualized, and experimental with a specific domain,” supporting the creation of new substances (Kukulsa-Hulme and Traxter 30). It’s reasonable to believe that cell phones’ artistic ability is harmful to society, because it interferes with jobs and invades others’ privacy. Reported by Andrew Kling, many journalists lose jobs because news companies solicit photos from ordinary people, and many beings are unfortunately taking pictures of those without permission (Kling 66). The articles discussed new philosophies pertaining to cell phones and their benefits; such as, Kukulsa-Hulme and Traxter’s article that specifies the benefits of the new philosophy, m-learning. Other articles focused on previous events of cell phones’ harm to others and their current effect on others today. Majority of the articles are journals or published in Magazines and come from reliable sources like, Gale, Google Scholar, and EBSCO. While the other few were government owned sites. These articles date no further than 2001, an era when the popularity of mobile phones were increasing, and stopped in 2014; to show how society was affected by cell phones’ growth over time. The authors of the articles usually are graduates or have the highest degree in their professions; for example, Madden and Lenhart are senior research specialists.
