Annoying is the blasting sounds of music or the loud conversations people have when they are on their cell phones. It seems as though most of us cannot function without them, since we use them in our everyday routine with friends, family, social media and business. Cell phones have become a growing trend amongst young school children and adolescents, so it is no surprise that they want the freedom to use them in public schools. However, cell phones have no place in the classroom. The usage of cell phones would only create distractions, interfere with the privacy of others, and are unnecessary due to the fact that schools are fully equipped with adequate learning devices. To begin with, cell phones are problematic in classrooms because they become distractions to both the students using the phone and to those that are trying to learn. In either case, they will both miss out on the opportunity to learn. According to M. Beth Humble-Thaden, “Cell phones ringing during a class time present unwanted distractions and, for some students, sending or receiving text messages can lead to cheating” (10). The usage of cell phones will also cause students to go off task and not give their school assignment the attention that it deserves, …show more content…
For instance, there has been a magnitude of videos taken by students that have been uploaded to various online sites and made headline news. The recordings, which were taken in secret, showed teachers in the midst of different emotions. Some teachers were in the middle of an angry rant, while others were shown overly excited, and in some instances teachers were dancing, singing and acting playful. To make matters worse, several of the videos were edited to include sound effects and music that would ridicule the teachers (Honawar 1). As a result, many of the teachers filmed without their knowledge were reprimanded and some even lost their
I remember a classmate when I was in high school because he never talked to anybody. He spent most of his time on his cell phone or using his tablet, and he did not do well in school. He was different than my other classmates and I believe that he never felt comfortable in the classroom. Everybody knows that cell phones have changed peoples’ life dramatically. Cell phones are one of the most revolutionary advances in the last decades because they make things simpler and easier but cell phones have a strong impact on teenagers. Teenagers are in one of the most important phase in their lives because they are exploring the world and developing their capacities. I believe that cell phones have more negative than positives effects on teenagers for many reasons.

For many years, cell phone companies and researchers have debated about the effect of cell phones on the health of the user and have been assessing the dangers associated with the use of cell phones, including the potential to cause types of cancer.
When students reply to texts or check social media, what’s going on in class gets ignored and students begin to fall behind. Additionally, the noise of someone’s phone going off not only distracts that person, but also his/her peers. As stated in one article, “Ringing cell phones can disrupt classes and distract students who should be paying attention to their lessons at hand” (“Cell”). The chaos caused by a phone may not only distract the owner of the phone, but the entire class. On the same note, the aftermath of being distracted by cell phones is clearly visible in the students’ overall performance.
What is the first thing that comes into your mind when you think of cellphones in schools? Is it a slacker in the back of the room texting their friend? Well, it seems like the future for this idea of phones in school involves kids using their phones as clickers, interacting with SMARTboards, etc. Cell phones can be used as a learning tool, as a safety tool to contact parents/officials, and teaches students responsibility. Cell phones should be allowed in schools.
Students and teachers have been battling the idea of having cell phones in class and school for ages since they blew up and got big. According to Greg Graham (2011), he found a study done by the Kaiser Family Foundation that
“[S]eventy-one percent of students can send or receive text messages on their phone during class”. ( Earl 4). Cell phones in schools negatively affect a child's learning. Cell phone usage is a distraction for the student in the classroom environment. Cell phones in schools contribute to a student's deficit in learning capabilities.
Although they are fun to use, phones shouldn’t be used in school. Phones cause students to get distracted leading to bad grades because they weren’t listening to what the teacher had to say. Students don’t communicate anymore. Phones could be used for getting information or listening to music but they still shouldn’t be used in class. Texting, social media, and gaming also distracting students from doing their work.
Just the thought of a a message or text on your phone screen can make you have the urge to look at it or take your time and reply back even if you were still in class causing damage and harm to the teaching environment. This issue of letting students have cellphones in class is a very big argument on both sides leading to many schools starting to give up and trying out new methods with cell phones. One after another schools are falling to the hands of cellphones. Although cell phones may give parents access to contact their child, schools should still ban cell phones in school because they cause major distractions to students that are using them, ruin the teaching environments the teachers has set up, and it may even distract other students. Having cellphones in school may cause major distractions.
This becomes a wider issue when students begin to pull out cell phones in the middle of class. Cue the distractions. Speaking from a high school student’s perspective, I can say that as much as I love having my phone with me at all times, it is definitely a distraction during class. There is always a number of times, during a lesson or a presentation, where I find my attention drifting off of the lecture, and towards my cell phone. As an individual who usually has a strong attention span, I can speak on behalf of my peers when I say that allowing personal technology would only be a distraction to students.
Today’s cell phone is the front line technology at our fingertips. Keeping this in mind the use of cell phones have become an affair when it comes to allowing teens to use them in educational environments, such as schools. One part of society supports the use of cell phones while the other part of society disapproves the use of cell phones. I personally believe that cell phones should not only be allowed in school, but cell phones should be mandatory just like a textbook. Cell phones do not only allow students to stay united with friends and family, but cell phones are also a magnificent learning system, and they boost the liable use of technology.
Cell phones are small and portable yet provide so much to its user with being able to look up anything to calling your parents in case of an emergency or if you need to give them a heads up on something. With the way things are today people need to focus on incorporating cell phones into daily life and finding ways to make them more suitable in a classroom environment. Teachers are already doing this though with using apps that work with the whole class and can track data and usage of a student. It cannot be debated that cell phones are beneficial in school as before cell phones you would have to go to your local library and hopefully find what you are looking for. Cell phones belong in a school environment as they can be helpful and it 's a parent 's right to be able to get ahold of their
One reason that cell phones should be banned from classrooms is because students who use them fall into a daze of distracted learning. Classes are taught by teachers, whose goal is to give the student an educational experience, learning things they will need to apply to their later life. However, students on their cellphones are distracted from their learning and never use the lessons taught. Over 2,000 cellphone disturbances were reported in New York City in the past school year (Backstory). This means that over 2,000 people had issues with cellphones interrupting classroom discussi...

I walked very nervously down to the office, wondering why I was being called down, for what reason? I slowly entered like a snail into the main office, where i was greeted by the receptionist behind the desk. She said in a nasally voice, “ The vice principal would like to see you in his office.” I responded with an “ Okay.” I walked back to the Vice Principal’s office, i opened the door and saw the Vice Principal and a teacher aid sitting behind the wooden desk. “ Take a seat Scott, we would like to talk to you about the incident in the hall way yesterday after school, about the two girls who got in a fight.” Said the Vice Principal in a stern tone. He went on to show me the video recording from one of the school’s many monitoring video cameras. It showed not only the fight, and the wild spectators, but also me rolling around on the floor with my phone out, recording the fight and sending it on Snapchat for the world to see. I wasn’t aware though of the law that prohibits video taping of people that could damage their reputation, I was filled in on this by the Vice Principal and the teacher aid sitting beside him to his right. For this reason, I was given two days in-school suspension, plus a not so joyful reaction from my Father upon hearing of my punishment handed down by the school. I spent the next two days in in-school, as i mentioned earlier, being brought down my work from my classes, having sheer boredom rush over my body when i was finished and all I could do was stare at the paint chipped wall. This goes t show that Cell Phones might be true gems of our generation, but we shouldn’t use them like knuckleheads, because then you might up in the same position i was in, or maybe even worse. So keep the phones in your pockets when you see trouble, because trouble will then find you as
