Competing Giants in the Cell Phone Industry The Samsung Galaxy and iPhone are the best selling phones year after year. The Galaxy S7 and the iPhone 7 are the newest edition of each, both with beautiful designs and many great features. Some of these features include the best cameras on the market and water resistance; however, they do have a good amount of differences. Their operating systems and customizability are the main differences between the two. Samsung is more customizable, while iPhone relies more on its classic interface and ease of use to keep people coming back. Where Samsung goes for raw power, Apple goes for fine-tuning finesse. The Galaxy runs on Android 6.0 “Marshmallow” and iPhone runs on iOS 10. Android offers capabilities that include customization of everything from the home screen to online programs and downloads. The Galaxy acts more like a computer, allowing the operator to do practically anything they could do on a laptop. The Galaxy also has twice as much ram as the iPhone, which makes the Galaxy run faster. Even though it has much better customization, it has to be done manually and increases the risk of contracting viruses when using non-trusted websites. On the other hand, iOS offers a simple design that is beautiful and reliable. With the Apple, customers will not be able to customize everything, but it already looks nice and it is virtually impossible for iOS to contract viruses. The iPhone 7 is IP67-rated which means it can withstand small amounts of water like rain or a shower. The Galaxy S7, on the other hand, is IP68-certified which means it can actually handle being dunked into water which makes it slightly more durable. They both have a 12 megapixel back camera which is great for taking pictures. While their back cameras are equal, the iPhone has a slightly better front facing camera, making it more ideal for taking selfies. That being said, the Galaxy does have a better resolution for taking videos. The Galaxy S7 has better battery life and charges much faster than the iPhone 7. The Galaxy S7 also features 4GB of RAM, 32GB or 64GB of storage, and a MicroSD slot that supports cards up to 256GB. This means the Galaxy S7 is faster and has the potential to hold much more information than the iPhone 7. The Galaxy can also features a heart rate monitor on the back of the phone.
