Carol Bartz is the definition of a true success. She was born in 1948 to a low economic family. She grew up in a time period where men were superior to women, especially in the workforce. She broke barriers in many ways. She faced tragedy, poverty, discrimination; sexism yet did not let anything stop her. Bartz did not grow up in a traditional household, but was forced to live with her grandparents. Having her mother die at a young age, being taken away from her abusive father, Bartz was left with her grandparents. Bartz struggled to overcome poverty throughout her young life. How you deal with each problem is what gives people character or voids people of character. Bartz has had a strong character from the moment she realized she wanted to make something of herself. Morrow challenges people to think about how we individually define success and the related achievement. Everyone defines success differently, to some it could be business success or personal success, for Bartz, it was all success (Morrow, 2012). Bartz has commendable dedication to all of her goals. She has found a way to balance her work, her family, and herself throughout her life. The fact that Bartz goes after what she wants is what makes everything possible. Achievement does not just come to you, but something you chase after. Starting the chase is the first step in balancing your life dreams, goals, and aspirations. Even though in almost every aspect of her life she faced adversity and challenges, she persevered. Not only did she make it through, she succeeded and became a role model for so many women and that makes her a true hero. After studying Carol Bartz I have learned many things such as determination. Bartz never gave up no matter what the circumstance was. She worked hard at everything she did and it paid off. What really made an impact on me was how she continued her life even after her mom died when she was so young. She did not let that get in the way of anything, nor did she use that as an excuse.
