There are a wide range of many different employment and further development routes that could be pursued as a psychology graduate. Through exploring various options, both chartered and non-chartered areas in Psychology and Applied Psychology, I came to the conclusion that my area of interest lies in the career path of Counselling Psychology. I believe that pursuing my study through the route of Counselling Psychology would not only enable me to gain deeper understanding on mental health issues, but also the knowledge development in the integration of psychological theory and therapeutic practice. Qualification of Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC), which is achieved by completing a Society accredited degree or conversion course that is accredited by the BPS, and qualification of Society accredited Doctorate in Counselling Psychology or the Society’s Qualification in Counselling Psychology which is BPS accredited and approved by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC). It is essential to be registered with the HCPC in order to gain eligibility to use the title “Counselling Psychologist”. I would attain the qualification of GBC after completing my final year of Bsc (Hons) Psychology degree (July 2016), gaining a 2:2 or above. Whereas for the qualification of Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, I have researched and explored postgraduate courses at multiple universities within the UK. I feel the top three universities best suited to my needs are University of Manchester, City University London and University of Surrey. Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology course are provided over three years on full-time mode by all three universities, along with approval by HCPC and BPS accredited. All three universities outlined the entry requirements of attaining 2:1 honours degree or above which confers GBS with the BPS, the capacity to undertake doctoral research, undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check, one year minimum substantial experience with counselling work, and complete certificate-level counselling skills
