E. E. Hale once said, “I am only one but still I am one, I cannot do everything, but still I can do something and because I cannot do everything I will not refuse to do the something that I can do." Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of being someone who was going to change the world. I wanted the lives of others to be different after an encounter with me. I absolutely loved helping others and putting their needs above my own. As I got older I realized that a career as a health care professional was the right way to go. Having all the book smarts in the world is nothing if I don’t know how to put the books into action. Potential employers and potential patients need to know that I can not only recite a procedure but perform the procedure too. Family members are almost always present in patient’s rooms; they will always ask questions about what is being done to their loved ones. I need to be confident in my abilities to let them know that I can get the job done and done right. I am a certified nursing assistant and I have experience in the medical field. I deal with patients and their families every day; I also get to aid with procedures as well. I need to be compassionate about my work as well as my patients. I have to show that I am involved fully in any and everything that I do for my job and my patients. If I don’t act and work as if I genuinely care about them then they won’t want to trust me with their lives. Giving someone terrible news regarding their health is a serious and complicated process; if I just give them the news and walk away I’m not being very compassionate. I need to ease into it, make sure they are comfortable, give them room to ask questions, and make sure that they know I’ll be with them every step of the way. While I was working a shift at the hospital one of my patients found out that she was in the last stages of cancer. I did everything for her, we played cards together, I did makeovers for her, and I even let her call me her granddaughter just to make and keep her happy.
