What are your career and/or personal objectives, and how did you arrive at them? My career and personal objectives are to earn a doctorate in Physical Therapy, run cross-country, and to continue excelling in music. These goals are important to me because I get to serve others, make a difference in my community, and also for the ability to push myself every single day. Pursuing Physical Therapy will allow me to interact with individuals that are seeking help, and doing so through fitness as a daily attribute. Running and playing the piano, on the other hand, has given me the ability to learn what it’s like to have a yearning for self-discipline and hard work. Having a family friend who was paralyzed from the neck down, and put through intense therapy, opened my eyes to the world of Physical and Occupational Therapy. Not knowing which field was meant for me, I took matters into my own hands. I decided to volunteer at Aaron’s acres, a camp for children with disabilities, to get a better understanding of the environment as an Occupational Therapist. This volunteer opportunity, that helped others, gave me a new insight on what it’s like to work with individuals struggling to surpass an alteration in their life. The first week of this camp, I was placed with an individual who is hearing impaired and has autism. Not knowing how to communicate to this individual, I was inspired to learn the basics of American Sign Language to communicate to not only him, but also to other American Sign Language signers. As a result from this camp, I shadowed an Occupational Therapist and learned an abundance of information regarding this occupation.
