The focus of this paper will be installing an operating system over a network to one or many computers by creating an image. There are multiple ways to install an operating system on a computer. The way that is chosen depends on the installer’s situation. One scenario would be if the installer is only dealing with a single computer that needs an operating system installed. The other scenario is if there are many computers that need operating systems installed at one time.
An operating system is a set of programs that manage computer hardware resources and provide common services for application software. (Operating Systems) Without the operating system, a computer could not function. Applications would not be able to operate because there is no operating system to control their function. The operating system also acts as a communicator for the application software and the computer hardware. The two components have to know what each other is doing in order to function properly, and the operating system provides this service.
The first scenario of installing an operating system would be the need to install one on a single computer. This can be done with a disk that holds the basic operating system on it. It can also be done by deploying an image created from a configured reference computer or the target computer before it became corrupted. If the operating system is being installed on the computer by way of a basic operating system CD, then the drivers for that operating system would need to be installed by way of another CD. This is the case if the operating system is older than Microsoft Vista. If the operating system being installed is Microsoft Vista or newer, then the drivers for the operating system are alr...

Processor (CPU) – The processor, also known as the Central Processing Unit runs the operating system and other applications. It is constantly receiving data from the user or other active software. The data is then processed and then an output is produced which either will be displayed on screen or stored by an application.
It is recommended that all personal computers be backed up. Copies of the personal computer files
Microsoft, the leading manufacturer of personal computer software with its windows based operating systems and application software, has decided to expand its influence beyond windows into the Linux freeware operating system world. The means for entry into this rapidly growing segment of the server operating system market is through a takeover of the Red Hat Linux Company. Currently Microsoft Corporation now owns 51% of the stock for Red Hat Linux. This expansion directly into the Linux arena will provide Microsoft with the ability to attack competitors in the network server market with the Windows NT and Windows 2000 operating systems on one flank and with the extremely stable Linux operating system on the other flank. Microsoft expects to use this one-two punch to significantly gain market share in the server market and to shape the future of business LANs, WANs and the internet. Additionally, Microsoft expects to gain a controlling market share of the Linux office application suite wit...
Not long ago computers were non-existent in many homes. When computers were first introduced to the world, they were for the sole purpose of performing business functions. The only people who owned computers were large organizations. Eventually, computers were introduced into the homes of those who could afford to buy them. Today, just about everyone owns some form of system that they use daily to help manage their day-to-day operations. What many once survived without now seems impossible to do without. As technology continues to grow, it has a greater effect on families and the education system. Some companies such as Microsoft and Apple made it possible to reinvent a new form of technology that would change the world. Each company had some form of struggle and overtime had to keep up with the changes of time and the way people communicated. From the first day of its invention, organizations have had to steadily implement new operating systems to keep up with the demands of the people while staying afloat with competitors. The ways of life for many have changed as well as the way people communicate. It is evident that the history and uses of computers have changed the world but these computers could not perform without the operating systems. Various operating systems will be discussed, how they began and how they each changed since they were first introduced. Although, they all had a purpose each varied in how they performed and changed the lives of many and will continue in the near future.
As the internet is becoming faster and faster, an operating system (OS) is needed to manage the data in computers. An Operating system can be considered to be a set of programed codes that are created to control hardware such as computers. In 1985 Windows was established as an operating system and a year earlier Mac OS was established, and they have dominated the market of the computer programs since that time. Although, many companies have provided other operating systems, most users still prefer Mac as the most secured system and windows as it provides more multiple functions. This essay will demonstrate the differences between windows
Microsoft was able in the OS segment to double their revenue per PC when Windows 3.x emerged which still needed MS-DOS to run. Most of the sales Microsoft made were to OEMs who would take the additional step of installing Windows on a computer’s hard drive. This strategy was effective in that the cost of production was relatively low, as an OEM may only need a single master copy to do the installation. The costs to Microsoft would largely be bore in R&D expense rather than production. As part of the Microsoft business model for this segment, Microsoft designed their OS to need periodic upgrades. The upgrades did come at a cost, and in essence, Microsoft was able to create an “annuity” stream for the Microsoft OS segment. In this segment, Microsoft had a monopolistic structure that allowed them to realize huge returns, especially during such a period of technological growth and rapid obsol...
Because of the robust Linux programmer community, several “flavour’s” of Linux (known as “vendors”) are available, and each is specialized in a slightly different way. This robust operating system is being widely adopted by IT professionals in growing businesses because of its high quality, reliability, and price.
...ame physical hardware, IT administrators can consolidate hardware and instantly build production, quality assurance, and test environments. Storage virtualization enables the pooling of physical storage from multiple network storage sources into what appears to be a single storage device. This significantly helps administrators perform backup, expansion, archiving, and recovery tasks more effortlessly, and in a small amount of time. Virtualization can provide various benefits, including reducing hardware cost, better energy usage, optimization of workloads, flexibility and responsive. Virtualization allows the IT administrator to efficiently access and manages resources to reduce operations and systems management costs while maintaining needed capacity. With these types of benefits, most companies find it easy to justify the cost of implementing virtualization
Implementation of the virtual machine is difficult. A lot of work is required to provide an exact duplicate of the underlying machine, which has both the user mode and kernel mode. The virtual machine software can run in kernel mode since it is the operating system, where the virtual machine itself can only execute in user mode. In a virtual machine implementation, there must be a virtual user mode and a virtual kernel mode, both of which run in a physical user...
A set of independent computers that are joined together, but appear to be a single computer for end user is known as distributed system. The idea behind implementing a distributed operating system is to enhance the performance and ability of a grouped system to process and respond to user actions.
Windows NT offers one of the highest levels of compatibility with other operating systems and hardware. It was created to be the most integrated, extensive, and easy operating system and it comes in two ways:
An operating system accomplishes the following tasks: interaction between computer and user, providing an environment of which programs operate, and manages files. Yet, each operating system does it its own way. Hence, it is advantageous to know the pros and cons of each operating system before a decision is made. Any kind of operating system can be utilized in most environments; it's just a matter of difficulty supporting it regarding maintenance, compatibility problems and other concerns. For example, the Mac OS X would be perfect for the graphic design department, but would not work out well in the engineering department, which is better suited for Windows or Linux.
An Operating system is system software that controls the system’s hardware that interacts with users and the application software. As we all may know, Windows Microsoft has always been a commercial high-level sale in the retail industry and an in domain operating system used today. But there are more operating systems than just Windows Microsoft than the general population may assume. Linux is another well-known operating systems, which is free and open-source software. Linux is also used in companies we would have never thought of like Google, NASA, USPS, Amazon and many more companies. Linux and Microsoft operating systems have been in competition to see which one is the best operating system in the market. There are so many resemblances
Computers are very complex and have many different uses. This makes for a very complex system of parts that work together to do what the user wants from the computer. The purpose of this paper is to explain a few main components of the computer. The components covered are going to be system units, Motherboards, Central Processing Units, and Memory. Many people are not familiar with these terms and their meaning. These components are commonly mistaken for one and other.
computer architecture Computer architecture covers the design of system software, such as the operating system (the program that controls the computer), as well as referring to the combination of hardware and basic software that links the machines on a computer network. Computer architecture refers to an entire structure and to the details needed to make it functional. Thus, computer architecture covers computer systems, microprocessors, circuits, and system programs. Typically the term does not refer to application programs, such as spreadsheets or word processing, which are required to perform a task but not to make the system run.
