Owning a business can be good or it can be bad but it takes a lot to maintain a successful business or even the thought of starting one. Dictionary.com defines entrepreneur as “a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk” (Entreprenuer, n.d.).
When looking at the word entrepreneur the word entrepreneurship also comes into play. The word entrepreneurship has been defined as “the process of starting a business, a startup company or other organization. The entrepreneur develops a business plan, acquires the human and other required resources, and is fully responsible for its success or failure” (Entrepreneurship, n.d.). This is not a small endeavor when it comes to a business. Planning is an important tool in thinking about how a business should be started as well as how things will begin to come together for the business to come to fruition.
The bible also teaches us about things we should look at when looking to start a business. When reading different scriptures in the Bible I have found that there were scriptures that were fitting for the planning of a business. Luke 14:28, “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?” (Luke 14:28, 2015).
This passage was very important in how planning is very beneficial to a business. The scripture speaks in the concept of asking one to truly take a look within to see if they have carefully looked at what he/she is trying to do and if he/she has the finances to fulfill this dream that he/she has in opening a business. Being able to know which direction and have goals set and written on paper helps to make the transition into opening a business a much smoother process.
With proper planning a business can be successful and being obedient and following God’s word that he has set forth for each us to live by all things will be possible. Having a successful business takes a lot of planning, preparation and prayer that things go the way the owner would like for them to go and to keep in mind what it takes to build a successful business. The three p’s planning, preparation and prayer are three ingredients for a business.
When one begins to think about owning or buying a business there are many things that should consider before getting started. Starting a small business is a spiritual journey. The various passages of the Bible relate to one’s abilities and skills in many ways.
