Within the sector of convention centers, the business case for investing in sustainability efforts at convention centers is mostly examined within the environmental scope. However, this does not mean that economic and social/cultural sustainability are mute points. In fact, the primary existence of public convention centers is to generate a positive economic impact for the local region. This means that a convention center’s construction is founded on the need for ongoing economic support to the local region and often the reason why some facilities will offer their space rent free to stimulate convention attendance and other direct spending. During these times, SDCC has worked to increase sustainability efforts largely because they do save money and clients request them. SDCC’s sustainability measures include waste minimization, food composting, water conservation, energy efficiency, environmental purchasing, and donating of re-usable goods and excess food which doubles as waste minimization. (SDCC Green Meetings, 2016) Many of these environmental and social/cultural efforts serve a dual purpose by helping to reduce costs, and also supporting the community by contributing to the local charities, schools, and service organizations. Staff also actively shares ideas on how to further reduce, reuse, recycle, and redesign, and the corporation created a suggestion program so an open forum exists for these ideas. What may have been considered appropriate decades ago, may no longer be socially acceptable due to the changes observed in both the business world and the environment (Fiske, 2010). For a decade the hotel industry is trying to implement a strategy to help with sustainability. Water, electric, gas is highly generated every day in hotel rooms. The Deliotte Game changers or spectators article (2015) stated that Hospitality is vulnerable to water shortages, relies heavily on built assets, and consumes significant amounts of electricity and, generally speaking, is an item on which spending is discretionary. This is the case because when people travel they do not pay attention to how much energy or water they are actually consuming. The hotel industry is one the largest establishment that is constantly using water, electric, and gas.

Many investments for infrastructure construction in the destination primarily designed for the business tourists (hotels, restaurants, transportation…) provide economic profits, and they can also be enjoyed by local residents and leisure tourists.
1. The philosophy behind the 100% Satisfaction Guarantee is to have the guests act as quality-assurance inspectors by identifying quality deficiencies and reporting them to hotel employees. I do think that this is a good way to improve service quality; however, I am not sure that it is the best way. While it may seem to consumers that employees will try harder to satisfy them, if employees are empowered to refund a customer’s money, they do not have to answer to management, they can just do it.
