I aspire to build a democratic classroom atmosphere as cited in Lyons et al (2014). My plan will incorporate elements of Goal Centred Theory (GCT) by creating a respectful, inclusive classroom culture.
I will develop positive teacher-student relationships as Grossman (2004, p. 25) states that these are essential aspects of effective classroom management. Respect for others and themselves is the cornerstone of my classroom atmosphere. Learning can only occur in an environment where each member feels safe, appreciated and respected (Coag.gov.au, 2015).

This gives students the opportunity to correct the unwanted behaviour without drawing the class’s attention to the student and interrupting the lesson flow. If negative behaviour continued, the student was warned verbally to stop the behaviour and reminded that they were choosing to ignore the class rules.
This practice encouraged students to take ownership of their behaviour as cited by Educationworld.com (2015). Logical consequence should generally be applied in two stages. The first stage is to stop the negative behaviour. The second step is to apply action that allows the students to revisit the class rules, affirms limitations and teaches alternative behaviours.
If disruptive behaviour continued, the teacher then removed the student from the lesson immediately. They would later speak to the student privately to enquire what was wrong. This practice is aligned to the assertive discipline theory as it states that no student should stop you from teaching. Assertive teachers react confidently and quickly in situations that require the management of student behaviour (Behavioradvisor.com, 2015). It also encompasses elements from the choice theory as it allowed the students the opportunity to make the correct choice of behaviour as cited in Lyons et al
