Bruno Mars is one of the influential names in pop and R&B music. His use of interesting vocals and unique music techniques makes his music enjoyable. Listening to Doo-Wops & Hooligans I found that his music was very upbeat and always directed to one specific individual. Bruno Mars himself uses his unique personality in every aspect of his music, his album holds messages within each song and this leads to my overall enjoyment of the album.

The song Just the Way You Are has significant meaning behind it, it talks about a girl that he likes and how he likes every single aspect about her no matter what she thinks about herself. Common girls that listen to this song, makes them feel like he is personally singing towards them which helped many girls boost their self-esteem. The song is very ballad and he is very sentimental towards that special person. This song consists of many different instruments such as a piano, drums, hi hat cymbals, and a beat that is digitally created. Another song with a unique meaning behind it is Marry You. It is a unique love story that explains how he wants to marry this girl and how he is going to propose to her. The meaning behind this song is a girl’s dream of how she wants to be proposed to and what his ideas are. As a first album you would not expect a person to do so well and win so many music awards, that is why it caught me off guard when I first listened to this album. The album was well composed and was very well thought out, which led him to become very successful on the release of his first album. As a first album, I expected it to be just okay and have maybe one hit song. I also expected it to be a one hit wonder and not a Grammy winner. My expectations were completely wrong and he completely did the opposite of what I expected him to do. I chose to listen to this album because it was something new and it was a genre that I started to get to like before him. So, I decided to give his album a chance and I wanted to see the different music styles he puts towards his songs.
Overall, I think Bruno Mars’ album Doo-Wops & Hooligans exceeded everything I expected of it. The fact that every song has its own message and creates a different appeal for the people listening to the song, such as myself. He used different techniques in all his songs to bring us in create an amazing
