Brookshire’s Grocery Company is a privately held Texas based retail food chain that operates in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. The company’s corporate office and headquarters are located in Tyler, Texas at the Tyler distribution center. Brookshire’s operates under three distinct banners: Brookshire’s food stores which are full service supermarkets, Super 1 Foods stores which are upscale warehouse style stores, and FRESH by Brookshire’s which is a concept store. Brookshire’s Grocery is rated #193 on the Forbes America’s Largest Private Company List with revenues of 2.4 billion as of December of 2013 (Forbes, 2013).
There is a lot that goes into being a successful company, and making the Fortune 500 list is most every business owner’s dream. Sam Walton is credited with being the founder and first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wal-Mart. Walton and other CEO’s of the company were able to shape the success of Wal-Mart by implementing strategies that would revolutionize the way retail stores do business, all while pushing Wal-Mart to the top spot on the Fortune 500 list. This paper looks at a few different strategies Walton implemented that ultimately benefitted the company to increase revenue. How did Wal-Mart become the retail giant that it is today? T.A. Ross Stores has become one of the most successful companies in the apparel business since established in 1982 by Stuart Moldaw. (Ross Stores, Inc. History, n.d.).
Publix Super Markets, Inc. is a Florida-based grocery chain that has flourished since its inception in 1930. The first store opened in Winter Haven, Florida and to this day Publix has expanded to well over 1,000 stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee. The supermarket chain now boasts over $25 billion in sales annually (Mujtaba and Johnson, 2012). To withstand the test of time and develop such a stronghold on the market, Publix has excelled in its global business community or macroenvironment, as well as its market environment or microenvironment.
The goal for my ethnographic study is subjected to the study of the people of Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is a place that varies from city to city, but still attracts many of the same people. Everyone knows the weird people that wear ridiculous things to do their normal routine of shopping. That is why I have chosen to do my mini ethnography one day while shopping as an insider at the local Wal-Mart in Auburn, Alabama. Wal-Mart is a large center for shopping that attracts many different types of people, while creating an environment within itself.
Found in the case study entitled, Promotion from Within at Citrus Glen, is a staffing process concern. The Citrus Glen Company, based in Florida, is a juice producer that supplies orange and grapefruit to food processors, grocery stores, convenience stores and restaurants in the United States. With rapid growth over the last few years, the HR vice president, Mandarine “Mandy” Pamplemousse, has been worried about how to staff the ever-expanding array of positions for Citrus Glen. Her concern is how to hire and promote enough individuals who are qualified for the needed positions. When Mandy is trying to staff internally, she uses a contractor based in Charlotte, NC called, Staffing Systems International (SSI). When positions become available that are appropriate to staff internally, she sends a group of candidates for the position to SSI to participate in the assessment center. The candidates are in the assessment process for three days. Mandy receives the results with recommendations, a few days after
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is in the discount, variety stores industry. It was founded in 1945, Bentonville in Arkansas which is also the headquarters of Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart operates locally as well as worldwide. It operated 1209 discount stores, 1980 super centers, and 567 Sam’s Club by January 31, 2006. It has also extended its operations to many international countries. It runs its retail stores in two forms: Sam’s Club and Wal-Mart Stores. The Sam’s Club sells assorted product lines such as hardwares, electronics, jewelry, and to mention a few. The Wal-Mart stores also offer similar products in addition to the following: health and beauty products, apparel for women, men and children, household appliances etc (www.yahoo.finance.com). The Vision Statement, Mission Statement, Values and Code of Conduct, Corporate Governance: Directors, Executive Management, Committees and Stakeholder will be the key elements that will discussed in this report as it relates to Wal-Mart. In addition to that, the major trends in the general/macro environment and industry will be analyzed.

This enhances the employees’ feelings of being well-informed and engaged. The employees even can challenge the current unit wage for manufactured parts. This is an open discussion, so we can see that employees are treated as if they were partners.

The Panera Bread Company began in 1981 as Au Bon Pain Co., Inc. Founded by Ron Shaich and Louis Kane, the company thrived along the east coast of the United States and internationally throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s and became the dominant operator within the bakery-café category. In the early 1990’s, Saint Louis Bread company, a chain of 20 bakery-cafes were acquired by the Au Bon Pain Co. Following this purchase, the company redesigned the newly acquired company and increased unit volumes by 75%. This new concept was named Panera Bread. Top management chose to sell their previous bakery-café known as Au Bon Pain Co. due to the financial and managerial needs of Panera. In order for Panera to become the success top management visualized all resources needed to become available for Panera.
