Imagine buying a new home and moving to a new state with two beloved pets. Now imagine that the two beloved pets are a six year old Pit bull and a three year old Rottweiler. Upon the completion of the move, it is necessary to take both of the dogs for a well-deserved walk in their new neighborhood. From out of nowhere comes a police officer who kindly states that the dogs are prohibited in the state and will need to be taken to the local animal control office to be euthanized. Upon asking the officer why the dogs are prohibited, he simply says because they are bred to be aggressive. The news has caused much confusion and sorrow about how it is that family pets that have resided in the same home and shared the same bed for so many years could be considered aggressive. Pleading with the officer to allow the pets is useless and the officer politely reinforces the law by saying that there is a $10,000 fine associated with keeping aggressive type animals. The officer clearly states that there will not be any way to obtain a home owners insurance policy until the dogs no longer reside in the home. The officer leaves but not before issuing a citation that gives a deadline that the precious pets must be taken for euthanizing. What is the next best course of action? Sell the new home and move again? Is that even a financial possibility? The scenario is not real, but the situation is very real. Breed-Specific laws are not only ineffective, but they also target certain breeds that are considered to be naturally aggressive; when in reality the dog's behavior is a reflection of a desire to please his or her owner.

Breed- Specific laws are no more humane than racial profiling and should be treated just the same and eliminated. In the words of Caesar Millan "When it comes to dogs, the beast is often the two legged animal at the end of the leash."

Pit bulls are targeted in this ineffective solution to dog attacks. Perhaps the reason why pit bulls are feared by society because we are afraid of what they are associated with. Pit bulls are often thought of as a gangster’s pet; a role in violent and illegal activities. People stereotype this breed because of the unfortunate acts of few. In contrast, society needs to understand that they are being racist towards a breed of dog. Denver’s systematic killing of pit bulls could be compared to the actions of the Nazis during the holocaust. Although BLS is not even close to being on the same scale as the Holocaust, it is targeting and killing a specific group of living beings. Breed Specific Legislation is genocide of this breed. Denver alone has killed at least 3,500 pit bulls. It’s heart wrenching to think about how many families lost their steadfast companions because of the ignorance of others. A common phrase among pit bull supporters is, “Judge the deed: not the breed”. This rings true; if we are to bring justice to the breed, then we need to abolish BSL. True pit bulls are a far from the monsters they are made to

... prove their dog is not of the “type” when it should be the prosecution trying to prove that the dog is of the “type” . Its everyone’s human rights to be innocent until proven otherwise and this is why everyone is allowed a trial and given legal aid if they cannot afford it but this act totally stops this from happening because it was passed to fast.
Breed-specific legislation is a broad term that includes laws that ban or restrict the type of dog a person can own. Bree- specific legislation, or BSL for short, is often described as something that protects people or makes the world a safer place. In reality, there are many issues with this type of legislation. The whole premise of BSL is based off of misconceptions, it punishes innocent people and animals, and it does not ultimately lower the amount of people bitten each year where it is implemented. These laws are discriminatory, unjust, and unproductive.
There are breeds that can be classified as outlaws. How can that be? It is like judging a book by its cover, and is not that frowned upon? Society has gone so far with this that there are even laws banning pit bulls in certain counties. Fines have been put in place and outrageous insurance policies must be purchased simply to own a dog.
Dogs have impacted the lives of 44% of American families and homes. People use dogs for much more than just a family friend. Dogs are used for special needs, assisting police, and hunting and tracking. Dogs should be appreciated and never taught to fight or be neglected. Dog fighting is unethical because man’s best friend shouldn’t have to fight for their lives.
...es to all of the other dogs in the world. In a country proud of our diversity and freedoms, we should be granting dogs the same lives. They deserve that diversity in what breeds they are mixed with and the freedom of a life outside of the bars in a shelter. Do your part and give a dog the life it deserves.
Spectators say that it is very difficult for people to get in and watch a dog fight and it can be hard to figure out where the fights take place because people do not want the fact of their fight getting out to the public. (Gibson 6). Now spectating is not one of the levels of dog fighting. There are three levels of dogfighting and the First level is known as “street Fighting” this is where the fights take place in alleyways, streets, and playgrounds and the people who are typical in the street fighting are the people who are involved in gangs and drugs. The next level a person would be known as a “hobbyist” which are the people with multiple dogs participating in many fights that are arranged and planed for both amusement and money purposes, but a Hobbyist is more likely to focus on the breeding and responsibility of the dogs. Next is the group known as the “professionals” who are ore into the majors of dog fighting and own a very large amount of dogs and will keep good dogs only for the purpose of money usage. If the dog that belongs to a professional and loses in a fight or is unable to breed the owner will kill that dog. Professionals and Hobbyist that have a human aggressive dog will sell that dog to the “street” fighters which causes people to be scared of aggressive dogs that
In 2005, the Ontario Liberal government passed The Dog Owner’s Liability Act: a ban against pit bull terriers in the province. After the bill passed, Attorney General Michael Bryant said, “Mark my words, Ontario will be safer” (Ontario passes ban on pit bulls, 2005). The legislation prevented people from acquiring a number of breeds of dogs that would be classified as pit bulls. In addition, Ontario residents who already owned a pit bull terrier prior to the ban were required to neuter and muzzle their animals. Such policies against this breed of animal are not unprecedented. In fact, similar laws are already in place in Britain, France and Germany. In Canada, Winnipeg has had a ban against pit bull terriers in place for 20 years (Ontario passes ban on pit bulls, 2005). Ontario and other regions have imposed these sanctions because the evidence clearly indicates that pit bull terriers pose a much higher than average risk to people.
b. “Many people have a difficult time properly identifying a true Pit Bull, so added to the statistics are those dogs that have been misidentified. Considering these factors, the actual number of attacks attributable to American Pit Bull Terriers is considerably lower than represented,” according to the real pit bull. i. Do you think a 4 pound Pomeranian dog would hurt anybody? ii. Stated in the Dog Bite Law, “The most horrifying example of the lack of breed predictability is the October 2000 death of a 6-week-old baby, which was killed by her family 's Pomeranian dog.” a. The American Temperament Test is a test that measures a dog strong avoidance, unprovoked aggression, and panic without recovery. “American Pit Bull Terriers passed the test at a rate of 85.3%,” according to Pitbulls.org. They have the highest test scores, and they out beat the golden retriever “family dog” by 7.7%. iii. I identify the justice of my rival’s claim, but I disagree with my rival’s 100 percent about pit bulls having the highest attacks. c. Now you can see how my rival made a mistake because they didn’t evaluate and understood the facts as clearly as they

Currently, pit bulls have been reported by the media with very horrific and disturbing news of having attacked a child or being shot by a police due to aggression while some are reported to have been abused or neglected by its owners (Forderer and Unkelbach 534). And because the reports keep coming with heated discussions, more and more people have forged a frightening image of pit bulls even to the extreme of refusing to take care of such breed. Pit bull advocates claim that the dogs get a bad reputation considering that people should learn the dogs are not inherently aggressive. What the pit bull advocates would like to point is that the owners of the pit bulls should be considered guilty for mishandling of their own dogs. There are owners of pit bulls that even encourage the dog to be aggressive in order to fight and protect them in a wrong manner and wrong degree of training (Forderer and Unkelbach 536). Pit bull advocates claimed that a well socialized and well trained pit bull would be very intelligent and could be one of the gentle dogs imaginable.
A few days ago, while walking my dog, I decided to run with him but with the leash in my hand, so that way he could be free to stop and sniff wherever he wanted. This experience was very good for the dog because he was not tied to the limits that I provided, but he was always by my side running. A couple of minutes after being “free” a policeman showed up. To my surprise he was upset with me and said that having a dog without control was a big misdemeanor. Then, he proceed to take my information and gave me a citation to the Municipal Court of The Colony, while my dog was still trying to sniff around, like nothing different was happening. Afterwards, I looked for places or parks that were dog-friendly in order to take my dog, and that wa...
“Harvard and twenty five other U.S. law schools have introduced law courses on animal rights,...Germany recently became the first nation to guarantee animal rights in its constitution.” Many Universities and a country are recognizing this and I believe it’s time we do as well. The first law, “The right of animals to be free from exploitation, cruelty, neglect, and abuse.”, would give animals full respect as to how they are being treated. Far too many animals are being neglected and abused and we can definitely change that. The second law, “The right of laboratory animals not to be used in cruel or unnecessary experiments.”, would defend the helpless experiment animals of being mistreated during research. We are in the twenty-first century and should find a way of testing items on living animals. The third law, “The right of companion animals to a healthy diet, protective shelter and adequate medical care.”, is not only for the animal health, but for us too. We eat the chickens that are injected with steroids to be twice as big as they naturally are. This law would help keep animals healthy as well as ourselves. The fourth law, “The right of wildlife to a natural habitat, ecologically sufficient to a normal existence and self-sustaining population.”, would secure the homes of many animals in the wild. Helpless baby chipmunks won’t need to fear a human being for tearing its home apart. They wouldn’t be seen as an award when they are seen with a hunter's eye and would just be living their daily and normal life. The fifth law, “The right of farmed animals to an environment that satisfies their basic physical and psychological needs.”, can be the supportive law of farm animals being mistreated in farms. Many farmers have multiple animals to make a profit, but fail to realize that every single one of those animals have feelings and wonder why
