The brain is an amazing thing, but it’s also such a weird thing. We just have this 3 pound ball of nervous tissue inside of our skull that helps us walk, talk, move, solve problems, write, read, imagine impossible situations that will stress you out at 4 AM , feel emotions, stores memories, and so many other incredible things. Okay, so the brain is basically billions of brain cells arranged in different patterns that coordinate our thoughts, behaviors, movements, and our senses. It’s like a little highway system of nerves that connects your brain to the rest your body, so you can communicate and respond in a split second. While all the parts of your brain work together, each and every part is responsible for every function. It’s job is to combine sensory information from the eyes, ears, and muscles to help coordinate movements. The brainstem links the brain to the spinal cord and controls a lot of the vital bodily functions, like our heart rate, temperature, breathing, and it’s also very important for sleep. The structures that are located deep inside our brain are used for controlling emotions and memories. These are known as the limbic system and they come in pairs. Each one has a duplicate copy on the other hemisphere across from it. There are three parts to these also, the thalamus, the hypothalamus, and the hippocampus. The thalamus is like a bouncer or doorkeepers for messages that are being passed between the spinal cord and the cerebral hemisphere. The hypothalamus controls emotions and it also keeps the temperature of your body stable, it also controls crucial urges like eating and sleeping. The hippocampus directs memories and decides where they’re to be kept and make sure that they’re in the right sections of the cerebrum and recalls them when
