Recommended: A little bit about the Wright brothers

Introduction Ever since I was little, I saw that my mom worked behind a desk and didn’t seem happy about it. I decided that I would never get a job that had me stuck behind a desk. Flying was something I wanted to do ever since I first saw the Blue Angels air show. From then it has bounced back and forth from being a military pilot to a business jet pilot to a helicopter pilot. I think now my goal is just to fly, no matter which type of pilot I am. History and Development In the year 1903, two bicycle shop owners named Orville and Wilbur Wright became the first to build and fly a heavier than air machine. Named the Kitty Hawk, this flimsy looking plane made of wood and powered by a small engine flew for the first time for 12 seconds, going 120 feet (Wright-House.com). Almost as soon as they were invented, planes were drafted for military service. The first country to use planes for military purposes was Italy, whose planes made reconnaissance, bombing and shelling correction military flights during the Italian-Turkish war during September 1911 to October 1912, in Libya (Wikipedia). The first major conflict that included planes was World War I, which had planes doing mostly reconnaissance. It was during this period that dogfighting became part of warfare. The most well known pilot during WWI was Manfred von Richthofen, better known as the Red Baron, who shot down 80 planes in air-to-air combat (Wikipedia). After WWI, some civilian aviators gained recognition for amazing feats of their day. In 1927, Charles Lindbergh became the first person to fly across the Atlantic Ocean solo, non-stop. Then in 1932, Amelia Earhart became the first women to do the came as Lindbergh. The best way to start as a helicopter pilot would be to join the military. I’m not sure if I would want to join the military though, since you are required to serve a set number of years when you join. Conclusion In conclusion, being a pilot is still interesting to me, but I may need to look at other options. I thought that becoming a pilot would have very good pay and it seems they would, if there weren’t problems with the economy. My ultimate goal in becoming a pilot was to fly helicopters, but since there isn’t a high demand for them I might need to focus more on fixed-wing aviation. Also, if technology progresses the way it has been then there may not even be a need for human pilots anymore further proving that I should keep my eye out for other options if piloting doesn’t work out.

During the World War One, the German military took advantage of the new technology available to them, which gave significant results, whereas the Allies had a more traditional mindset and followed behind at a slower pace.
