During the 19th Century, many ideas were introduced which generated struggles between the people and their countries. Many fought to have rights while others lost their lands and the resources needed to flourish. The people started to look for new ways to become a tenacious nation and they found the way to do so by becoming imperialistic. This contemporary ideal helped many countries take wrongful possession of places they would never imagine. Many saw imperialism, the forceful take over of a weak nation, in a positive way but it sparked many wars, separated countries, families and cultures. World War I was the result of imperialism and the clash of the Great Powers. Another war of this era was the Spanish American War, where the United States invaded and colonized the small island of Puerto Rico, retaining their imperialistic power to this day.
Imperialism was the outcome of many economical, religious and government struggles used as an advantage by powerful nations. They would help the people progress and in return the riches of their countries were shared. Although this was a positive situation, many were in disagreement since it meant loosing their freedom.
World War I was a notorious war against imperialism, the Great Powers in Europe; Great Britain, France Italy, Russia, United States and Japan United Stated and Japan against Germany and Austria-Hungary fought fiercely fought causing millions of deaths and destruction around Europe. The countries economical needs made imperialism an uncomplicated tactic to become powerful and in order to do so the countries challenge each other. The Puerto Rican people have sought of ways to become independent from the imperialistic power of the United States but had failed each and every time. Not having the proper resources make it impossible for the island to regain power. All of the island economy is based on the U.S. charity, becoming one of the poorest countries that did not asked for their way of government. Unfortunately all of the political and economical struggles had made this beautiful paradise into a silent war zone since many of their citizens had resource to illegal ways in order to make ends needs.
