The Importance Of Birth Control In The Catholic Church

Birth control has been around for centuries. However, the Catholic Church has not been accepting about any birth control. “All Christian denominations believed that artificial birth control was immoral and interfered with the Natural Law” (Dickow). This makes sense due to the fact that God’s Natural Law will never change and the Catholic Church feels strongly to make this law never changes. The Lambeth Conference, an assembly of bishops from the Anglican Communion, allows birth control only for married couples who were well-thought-out to have a solemn reason to be able to use it (Dickow). However, Pope Francis stated “Catholics do not have to breed “like rabbits” and should instead practice “responsible parenting” (Chen). This shows how the Pope believes Catholics should not have so many children, but they need to take responsibility. Responsible parenthood is a practice which allows couple to regulate how many children they have, yet this is still allowed by the Church. (Chen). Couple can still use this form of birth control and it would still be moral according the Church. Pope Francis also “cited a woman he met who was pregnant with her eighth child after having seven Cesarean sections. Then he believed this was irresponsible”. (Chen) This shows how Pope Francis thinks birth control is needed in these circumstances due to the health risks of the pregnant woman has and will face. After Pope Francis expressed her irresponsibility, the woman argued that she must “trust in God” (Chen). Which is a good point considering that she believes God can children her children if he desires. On the hand Pope Francis stated “But God gives you methods to be responsible” (Chen).
