Nowadays, the information is the most treasured asset in an organization, due to it along with the experience represents the input necessary to take appropriate decisions and consequently to have success in the business. Almost all the information and knowledge related with the processes business, goods and services offered by a company, is processed, managed and stored through technology and information systems, thus the security of information has become increasingly important and plays a critical role in the enterprise government.
“The term -information security- means protecting information and information systems from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction” (United States Code, 2008). In order to ensure the identity of who is trying to access the information, the concept of “Biometric Technology” has been developed in the last years. This essay will start explaining this concept and the characteristics of its development through the time. Then, the essay will offer a brief explanation of biometric systems operation and a description of different biometric systems developed until now. Finally, this research analyzes the current and future applications and the issues that surround it.
The purpose of biometrics is to identify a person based on the measure of his anatomical and physiological characteristics. This concept is not new, its history dates back to 14th century when Chinese used footprints to identify newborns and divorce records. In the 1880s, Henry Faulds, William Herschel and Francis Galton were the first who conceived the idea of using biometric identification to guaranty the security in civil areas, like using footprints for criminal identification and fingerprinting t...

...m. These systems are simple and economic; however, the hand geometry can have changes and the devices to capture the images are not too small to be adapted in a laptop.
Iris recognition is very accurate and distinctive because iris has a complex texture that can produce a substantial amount of information to identify a person. Furthermore, the iris remains almost unchanged from childhood, only minuscule variations are presented. The biometric data is captured using a small and high definition camera that is able to recognize different characteristics of the iris. Moreover, the system can detect the use of contact lens with a fake iris and can realize with the natural movement of the eye if the sample object is a living being. Although initially iris recognition systems were expensive and complex to use, new technology developments have improved these weaknesses.
Biometric and encryption sounds are not too fresh, for most users, any of each technology alone is not enough to make you feel excitement. However, If we develop a new study or a new technology, which combine the biometrics and encryption. We can find that the technology combining these two techniques are very amazing.
The usage of the iris technology is very fast. The capturing and the testing of the images is very fast, it must require some training. The glasses must be removed during the enrollment in the recognition system will ensure the best image will be captured without any reflections from the glasses or the lenses.
Security helps the organization meet its business objectives or mission by protecting its physical and financial resources, reputation, legal position, employees, and other tangible and intangible assets through the selection and application of appropriate safeguards. Businesses should establish roles and responsibilities of all personnel and staff members. However, a Chief Information Officer should be appointed to direct an organization’s day to day management of information assets. Supporting roles are performed by the service providers and include systems operations, whose personnel design and operate the computer systems. Each team member must be held accountable in ensuring all of the rules and policies are being followed, as well as, understanding their roles, responsibilities and functions. Organizations information processing systems are vulnerable to many threats that can inflict various types of damage that can result in significant losses (Harris, 2014). Losses can come from actions from trusted employees that defraud the system, outside hackers, or from careless data entry. The major threat to information protection is error and omissions that data entry personnel, users, system operators and programmers make. To better protect business information resources, organizations should conduct a risk analysis to see what
One of the largest challenges faced by companies today is confirming the identity of computer users. Ensuring that users can easily confirm their identity can be difficult. Ease of use and security are generally opposite to each other. Biometrics attempts to solve these issues. Biometrics uses something that you are, like a fingerprint, to verify your identity.
Fingerprint scanning has already been implemented into business to effectively enhance security and authentications. When scanning a fingerprint, a scanner has to have a pre-saved image of the authorized finger to compare images in a linked database to allow access. In order to allay privacy concerns, however, fingerprint scanners do not store actual fingerprint images. Instead unique characteristics of the fingerprint are analyzed and stored as an encrypted mathematical representation (Ballard, 2016). Businesses are hoping to safeguard their sensitive data by using this form biometrics as a viable option because of the several benefits and low costs. This is a easy to use system with cheap equipment that generally requires low power consumption. However, the disadvantage is that if the surface of the finger is damaged or contains any marks, the identification becomes increasingly difficult. Fingerprint security systems are already
Within the article the authors point out the use of biometric and multi-modal authentication techniques, pointing out the strengths and weaknesses of different authentication approaches. The article has substantial background information and study results, not only point out the impact of such methods but also shows how the active authentication can take place to benefit the
Analysis Memorandum Introduction This is an analysis memorandum proposing the use of Microsoft Access databases within our Security Division’s infrastructure. Many security managers are relying heavily on the use of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets in order to keep track of their personnel, security violations, inspection programs and training. While spreadsheets are effective means for complex calculations they are also limited in that they basically fall short in showing the relational qualities of security data in relationship to particular fields and queries. Not only do they fall short in relational quality, but they are also very difficult query in order for the user to locate particular records without having to go through entire spreadsheet. Since the success of our jobs and National Security rely heavily on the maintenance and tracking of personnel security clearance information, information security information and industrial security information, what better way of achieve our goals then to develop a relational database which can track and monitor the progress of these three area disciplines.
Biometrics is described as the use of human physical features to verify identity and has been in use since the beginning of recorded history. Only recently, biometrics has been used in today’s high-tech society for the prevention of identity theft. In this paper, we will be understanding biometrics, exploring the history of biometrics, examples of today’s current technology and where biometrics are expected to go in the future.
Substantially, to fundamentally elucidate an information system, it is essentially a connected set of elements produced by people and managed through computers which allows the collection and distribution of data, to summarise the term it is generally a database. Data is a plural for datum which are elementary recognisable facts, information is datas that has been correlated so that context is formulated. To interpret data security, it is an assortment of facts which is translated to information secure on an encrypted server due to its personal state. In addition, the majority of security systems within modern technology are encrypted with pass-codes. However, database management systems (DBMS) can be breached in several ways including weak

Biometric technology is used for the ways humans can be identified by unique aspects of their bodies, such as fingerprints, body odor, our voices and many more. If one was to think about privacy rights, he/she would be concerned about the widespread adoption of these systems, since such systems could easily be used to develop a record of known rebellious people and/or dangerous criminals, to be used for social control purposes. Although that may seem pretty good and a positive thing for the society, one should take into account of the defects and errors of technology. Of the many biometrics technologies that are being developed and are already developed, facial recognition is one of the most threatening because it can be deployed secretly; one may not know whether or when they can be caught in a surveillance camera for such facial recognition biometrics. Additionally, tests have found that the miscalculations for facial biometrics technologies are very high. As a result, according to Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, innocent people can be erroneously identified as dangerous criminals and actual dangerous criminals and/or suspected terrorists can fail to be detected overall, allowing for a huge injustice and unfairness. Privacy rights concerned with biometrics have sparked a concern and should be dealt with; otherwise, this is just one of the
Raw data is collected in three ways. The first is to use input devices worn by the user. This setup usually consists of one or two instrumented gloves that measure the various joint angles of the hand and a six degree of freedom(6DOF) tracking device that gathers hand position and orientation data. The second way to collect raw hand data is to use a computer vision-based approach by which one or more cameras collect images of the user’s hands. The cameras grab an arbitrary number of images per second and send them to image processing routines to perform posture and gesture recognition, as well as 3D triangulation to find the hands’ position in space.
Biometrics is the act of science to verify and identify a human being. Biometrics confirmation crown or judge numerous improvements over conventional approaches. Biometrics can be categorized into two types: Behavioral and physiological. Behavioral biometrics including signature verification, keystrokes dynamics. Physiological biometrics including fingerprints and iris characteristics .The signature verification and signature recognition are the behavioral biometrics. Signature is act of writing person’s name that may contain many alphabets, characters and letters. In signature verification scan the signature of person, done some improvements
As one of the feature of biometric, signature verification is used to find the authenticity of a person to give the access the most valued and important documents and shelf. Firstly the signature of a person are taken as a reference in database. To generate the database, number of attempts from the same person has been taken, as it would permit minute deviations in signatures that generates due to environmental conditions. Once it is done, then the signatures at other times are every time then verified with the existing database. Because of confidentially of the file/document/transaction giving access is the crucial process that should be monitored with perfection. The same happens with offline signature verification. Computerized process and verification algorithm (thus software) takes fully care of signature under test, generate results that are 100% authentic, and advocates credibility of the concerned person .However, there might raise issue of authenticity even if the same person performs the signature. Or, at times a forge person may duplicate the exact signature. Many research have been done to find the accuracy of result so as to prevent from forgery. Forgery is also divided into different categories depending upon their severity as
In most biometric authentication systems not just one but several data acquisitions are performed during the enrollment of a single user. With the help of several biometric sample magnitudes such as standard and mean deviations of biometric features can be calculated and thus a more representative sample can be calculated or boundaries can be generated for these features. Furthermore, the acquisition of several samples can be used to filter out the most stable features where deviation values are small. Thus common biometric authentication systems demand at least two or three biometric samples of a user during the enrollment
