Biography of Abraham Lincoln
The nineteenth century, the time of exploration, invention, crisis, and politics. Behind the discovery and the change, there is a person. Many of the people in this time period have changed our world in many ways. The world is constantly changing with improvements in education, science, technology, and politics. Without people like Socrates and Alexander Fleming, who knows how life would have ended up. On 19 November 1863 at his dedication of Gettysburg National Cemetery, 16th President Abraham Lincoln said in his famous “Gettysburg Address”, “Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal”. It had been 87 years since the Thirteen American Colonies declared independence from Great Britain. The United States was currently in a civil war against the Confederate States of America, a composition of seven southern states. This 150 year old dedication to the then-new cemetery for the fallen Union soldiers of the Battle of Gettysburg is still looked upon today by many due to its highlight of human equality and reminder of the population 's involvement in democracy. This speech and the abolishment of slavery are some of many reasons Abraham Lincoln is remembered for. ...h very poor skills. During the civil war, he suspended the right of habeas corpus, the writ requiring a person under arrest to be brought before a judge or into court. Some may say that he did not have the right to change this but some may argue that this was only to speed up the process of the war. In my opinion, Abraham Lincoln was someone we must always remember due to his personality traits of always being honest and forgiving. He cared for the people and transformed politics. During the election of 1850 , Lincoln was so great that he rallied many democrats. I feel like his Gettysburg Address is one of the most important documents in history. He was a very optimistic man and a great leader. He said “The world will little note nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here” not knowing that 153 years later we still find it relevant.
