Most people have very strong political views, but not everyone can express their political opinions like George Orwell. Orwell got to express his opinions in his writings. He wrote about the sociopolitical conditions of his time. For a man whose career started as a dishwasher, he came a long way to be known as the great author he is known as today. In this paper George Orwell's early life, his variety of jobs before becoming a writer, his many successes and failures and some of his best known novels and critiques of them, and his sad death will all be discussed. George Orwell was born in Motihard, Bengal, India on June 25, 1903 (George Orwell 1). He was born into a family in the upper middle class (Orwell, George 1). His birth name was Eric Arthur Blair. He was born to Richard Walmesley Blair and Ida Mabel Blair, who had seven other children. His father was a colonial civil servant while his mother was a house wife. Orwell?s had a good education he won a scholarship to St. Cyprians, a prestigious boarding school (Agathocleous 14). Although Orwell did not like it there he got bullied for not being rich, like the other kids attending there. After St. Cyprians he was accepted to Wellington College and after nine weeks he changed schools. He then decided to go to Eton another boarding school for high school aged students. After he graduated from Eton he didn?t follow the path that most students do. He rebelled against getting a further education at Oxford and Cambridge. Later in his life Orwell married Eileen O?Shaughnessy on June 9, 1936 (Orwell, George 2). After being married to Orwell for almost nine years Eileen died. It was voted one of Britain?s twenty- one best loved novels. Animal farm was in the top hundred. Orwell died tragically on January 21, 1950 at the age of forty- nine (Agathocleous 35). He died in London, England. He was buried in All Saints Churchyard. All Saints churchyard is located in Sutton Courteray, Berkshire, England. ?The great enemy of clear language is insincerity. When there is a gap between one's real and one's declared aims, one turns, as it were, and instinctively to long words and exhausted idioms, like a cuttlefish squirting out ink.?(George Orwell). Orwell lead a very interesting life overall. He made decisions most people would not make with his schooling. He also wrote a large variety of essays and novels. Although George knew he was dying he still managed to finish probably one of the best works in his career.
