Throughout history there have been many great figures that populate the conscientiousness of humanity. The great philosophers of the past and the industrious thinkers of the present all of whom have had a great impact on the world and how people view it. Bill Gates would be considered one of the greatest minds of our times. Bill Gates is not only considered a technological entrepreneur but, one of the greatest contributors to global equality. In Bill Gates ' Harvard commencement address I believe the main idea is that as the younger generation that has more than any other generation should be giving more of themselves than any other generation, regardless of the gender, race, sexuality or anything else that makes those giving or receiving …show more content…
on how well you treated people a world away who have nothing in common with you but their humanity”(Gates, 6). A literary character that I feel I can relate to the reflections and suggestion of Bill Gates ' commencement speech is Rand al 'Thor from my favourite book series The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and finished by Brandon Sanderson. I believe that the passages I have chosen from Gates ' speech are very relevant to my life as it is now. My first passage I feel is very relevant to myself as in it, I see an expectation, a challenge, and from seeing those things, my own stubbornness. First, the expectation. I have many expectations placed upon me from both society and my parents as well as my own expectations, though shaped by both society and my parents, are heavier and more important to me. I have very high expectations of myself and I despise failing. This is where I see the challenge, to live up to what is expected of me, as well as those I place on myself. The expectation from Gates is huge, and likewise the challenge is equally as daunting. In this I see my stubbornness. The thought …show more content…
With regards to the first passage, I expect that my future life will be deeply impacted by how well I meet the challenge that is offered by Gates ' expectation of the younger generation. If I truly take the message Gates has to offer to heart, I feel that I could make a lasting contribution to society. While I do not know where I will be going with my life or where it will eventually end up, I believe that if you can work hard for something that you believe in and love doing everything will be fine. Throughout Gates ' speech he talks about doing something to tackle problems step by step, and to make the world a better place. Saying to start earlier and to continue on later is a message to see a problem, to start on it no matter how small the effort you put into and to never stop building on it. If I could implement this into my life in the future I believe it could give me an additional feeling of satisfaction, that I may miss if I ignore the troubles around me and only focus on my self. Additionally, I feel if I stick with this path and keep following it I will gain a better work ethic. This could lead to a countless number of opportunities and accomplishments I may never know, if I do not develop it. I expect the second passage will also deeply impact my life. If, by seeing that I should judge myself not only by my accomplishments for myself, but
Angela Davis, a renowned political and civil rights activist, was invited in 2012 to Pitzer College to give the commencement speech to the graduating class. Her speech touched on important points in her life as well as many of the values she fought for and believe in. I have never heard her speak before watching this commencement address, and my initial thoughts when hearing her speech was that she was old. Her speech was slow and at first a little boring. However, as her commencement continued onward, she started to get more into rhythm and while she stayed relatively slow, the power behind her words as she spoke made me want to listen more to what she had to say. Angela Davis has had an interesting history as an activist and educator, and

Gates for his commitment to help the people who have been suffering from infectious diseases. Dr. Gates has been known as one of the world’s great philanthropists, who have made extraordinary donations to various charitable organizations and scientific programs around the world. Bill Gates is not only a genius, but also an innovator in education, technology, and philanthropy. A prodigy, Bill Gates shares an education fact with Abraham Lincoln, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, and even his competitor Steve Jobs: no college degree. Instead, he devoted his time to his passion for technology, going on to create the most profitable technology company in the world. For much of the past decade, Gates allocated both his profit and attention to philanthropy. Evidence of his innovation, industry and curiosity can be seen at an early age.
He begins the speech by explaining that remembering we are all going to die is the greatest thing, because it allows us think we have nothing to lose
“In my research, I have found that the issues people are dealing with now often have roots based on an earlier life that extends into this life. If not resolved, they will possibly carry them into a future life.”

Bill Gates once said “ I believe that with great wealth comes great responsibility , a responsibility to give back to society. ”(Cesinski 100). In this quote Bill Gates believes everyone with great wealth should give back to society like he does. Bill Gates is an important figure in American History because he gave back to society unlike most people with that amount of money would.

"We need to teach our children--by example--not to be lazy, to do their homework, to pay attention to detail, to take care and pride in work, to be reliable, and not to wobble and jerk through life. Each of us must take the initiative to create our opportunities, not waiting around for favors. We must not assume a door is closed but must push on it. We must not assume if it was closed yesterday that it's closed today."
So here I present you the path that gave us the Bill Gates we have today. Firstly, Bill Gates was fortunate enough to be born in a fine and educated family, where his parents were an educator and a lawyer. He had the privilege to all the essential necessities, such as clothing, food, and water sources which many other kids do not have. More than that, his family was wealthy enough to buy him toys and games and other things which would be far too extravagant to others. These small things created a stronger foundation for Bill Gates’
All in all Mr. Gates is one of many great Americans, who achieved a lot for our world. If Gates continues to support school and charity, and Microsoft develops further equipment, the world will be a saver and richer world. Who knows, maybe we will live in space in the next 100 years thanks to Microsoft and their computer technology. If Gates had not founded Microsoft or did not do what he did, the world would still teach with chalk and would have to read books to get information. As Gates once said, when he was asked, what his greatest fear for the future would be "... there'll be some really bad things that'll happen in the next 50 or 100 years, but hopefully none of them on the scale of, say, a million people that you didn't expect to die from a pandemic, or nuclear or bioterrorism ( News) ."
