Cancer is a big problem that scientists, along with US citizens have had to deal with for many, many years. Cancer keeps growing and growing, making several people and their families have to go through consequences that nobody could ever imagine. But, scientists are constantly working to find a cure that will get rid of the disastrous disease. Lyman Frank Baum once said, “Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue, and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true.”

Cancer begins when cells in a part of the body start to grow out of control. There are many kinds of cancer, and some can be worse than others, but they all start out being the exact same thing—with out of control growth of abnormal cells. Cancer is actually the second leading cause of death in the United States. Just in the year of 2008, seven point six million people worldwide died from cancer; which is thirteen percent of all deaths. An estimate of seventy percent of cancer deaths has occurred in the low and middle-income countries. One-half of all men and one-third of all women in the United States will develop some form of cancer in their lifetimes. Today, there are millions of people who are either living with or had lived with cancer. Any part of the body can be affected with cancer, and there happen to be over one hundred types of cancer all together. One fifth of all cancers worldwide are caused by a chronic infection, meaning HPV, which causes cervical cancer and HBV, which causes liver cancer. More than thirty percent of cancers could be prevented (not using tobacco, having a healthy diet, being physically active and moderating the use of alcohol) along with being cured as long as it is detected early and is treated adequately (breast cancer, cervic...

...en do not have life threatening health problems. But, until that time, the Make a Wish foundation will remain committed to a vision, granting a wish to every eligible child that they can find. If you know a child who has a life-threatening medical condition and they have a wish, then why not help make them feel better and grant them that wish.

To conclude, cancer is a very serious disease that if diagnosed with, needs to be taken care of right away. Just remember that cancer patients need the love to help them with getting through the stressful, painful, hard times. If you know somebody going through cancer, just try to be supportive and help them with feeling more secure about life and what they have. Try to stay positive. And when it rains on your parade, look up rather than down. Gilbert K. Chesterton once said, “Without the rain, there would be no rainbow”.
