The Has Been and The Never Was
This is the story of two very different individuals who, up until a certain point, could have been called The Has Been and The Never Was. They are both successful actors who pursued slightly different paths to fame. When the two were cast together in the same movie, their performances were nothing short of spectacular. They proved to all of Hollywood that they were A-list, bankable Talent, and deserved the professional respect accorded to people of this caliber. The movie that they appeared in was Pulp Fiction and the actors are John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson.
First, a few brief sentences about the film that many people call one of the greatest ever made (a simple search on the Internet brings up over 50,000 websites devoted to the movie). Directed by a then unproven Quentin Tarantino, who Roger Ebert calls ' The Jerry Lee Lewis of cinema, a pounding performer who doesn't care if he tears up the piano, as long as everybody is rocking'; (Chicago Sun-Times 10-94) the movie is a combination of several short-stories into a larger story. Tarantino ignores the concept of time, going forwards and backwards in such a way that the ending and the beginning of the movie are almost the same scene. This nonlinear way of shooting, combined with the brilliant acting of Travolta, and Jackson make the film one that can be watched a dozen times, and every time the viewer will take something different away from it.
The Has-been
John Travolta is an actor whose career has seen as many downs as it has seen ups. An awe-inspiring Hollywood star of the late 70's and early 80's, Travolta was the youngest of six children born to tire salesman and former semi-pro football player Salvatore Travolta and high school drama teacher Helen Travolta on February 18, 1954 in Englewood, NJ. Being the baby of the family, Travolta grew up pampered. The Travolta children were encouraged to be creative, and would stage shows in the basement of their home. By age twelve, John knew he wanted to be an actor, having already joined an acting workshop in his hometown. He soon began appearing in local theater and began taking tap lessons from Gene Kelly's brother Fred. Travolta admits he picked up a lot of moves from TV's Soul Train, and he ascribes his love for dance to the fact that his high school was fifty percent black.
named Ranofer who has been dreaming about becoming a goldsmith, but these dreams are crushed because of his vile half brother Gebu. Ranofer is an orphaned 12-year old boy whose mother died when he was born. Gebu runs a goldsmith shop than Ranofer is forced to work at because if he didn’t then he would be living on the streets. One day in the goldsmith shop the tailies did not add up, when Ranofer tries to find out why, Ranofer figures out that Ibni ( the Babylonian porter ) has been stealing gold and
are expected to be masculine in our modern day society. This type of thought has been implanted in our mind since we were born. It is expected that a man needs to be strong, big, and brave. If you’re anything else, then you’re considered less of a man. You will be perceived as weak, and will be ridiculed. Such fear result in our culture of female domestic violence. Even though men are physically abused everyday, it’s never taken seriously in the eye of the public. Whenever women input
She explains that even though life has given her many hardships, she continues forward and she urges her son to do the same. In “Mother to Son,” Langston Hughes uses an extended metaphor, imagery, dialect, and structure to paint a picture of a weary mother who wants her son to persevere through the hardships of life. The theme of this poem is determination and the value of experience. The mother is telling her son that no matter what happens, he should never give up. Even though this is a rather
I am and what I have been through, or I should say haven’t been through. I, being half black and half white, have always felt like an outsider regarding the racial tensions in the United States, as a majority of my perspective on the situation has come from objective facts and observations, not on personal experience. Throughout my life, I have been plagued with the question “What are you?” many times. My response has always been the same: “A person.”
really hard to be skillful with ball control, shoot on target, to not panic in stressful situations. I was never the star player on any team I had ever been on, but I always tried hard and practiced a lot. Practice doesn't make you perfect, but it does make you better. I was in ninth grade, and midseason, my coach, Ms. Borman, was teaching us a new play that we could implement into a game. It was a torrid afternoon. The sun blazed down from a cloudless blue sky, beating heavily on the fields, radiating

Even though it took many, many years to get this working how they wanted it to, it was definitely worth it to lots of these scientist. Hubble Telescope has been one of the many telescopes that have been made, but this particular one has helped scientist tremendously. It has helped capture pictures and many other things
person, mentally and in maturity has always been a center point. It has been achieved by maternal guidance, tough love, and reassurance like none other. My family is my harness. If all confidence was lost, all backs were turned, and fear were in my heart, I know, without a doubt I would have my family to lean on. Countless lessons I have been taught and countless lessons I will learn, for that is what has shaped me. My mother has always been a fighter, she never has let obstacles stand in her way
their love to each other the night that they met. I don’t think that they truly actually loved each other, for many reasons. First of all Juliet has never really been exposed to men, Romeo just was madly in love with Rosaline, and they only met a few hours before. First off Juliet has never really been around men, except for family really. If she hasn't been exposed to men a lot before, then she probably doesn't understand the true meaning of love. Yes, maybe she could love Romeo, or at least maybe
which took place about six years ago when i was a minor, i recently was alerted to the presence of an active warrant in my name and although i am not physically present i had been hoping that you would allow me to make matters right. At that time i not only made a promise to my father but also to myself that i would never again find myself standing before a judge
Language Arts, F Block Ms. Robin Christopher 13 May 2014 The Betrayal of Anne Frank: The Overview There are many stories, diaries and books from the time of The Holocaust but arguably the most famous of them all is the story of Anne Frank. Anne Frank was a teenage Jewish girl who went into hiding in her fathers offices in Amsterdam, The Netherlands when the Nazis called up her older sister, Margot (Anne ??). Just before the call up, Anne had started to write a “diary” which she continued to write when
Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf was a racist book that expressed Adolf Hitler’s hatred for Jews and Communists and should have never been written because it expresses many false ideas and it helped rile the people into an anti-Semitic opinion. Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf should not have been written because it is very discriminatory against the Jews. Hitler’s stance on Jews is that all Jews are inferior to everyone else. This is not true because Jews have accomplished many things. A mighty accomplishment
for the fact that they have joined a gang. Think about it there is about 774,000 people in all these different gangs imagine how many of those kids and teens have dropped out of school. Many people that have been in gangs and are now trying to put their lives back on track, haven’t been even been able to get a job because of their bad background. This affects many people especially the ones trying to clean up their act. They try to go back to school to try and succeed in life. Kids or teens usually
emotions such as anger and pain due to the discrimination against heavier people and Peck’s personal experience with her size. In Sedaris’ essay, you see mainly a reveal of being jealous of his partner Hugh, but later on you understand the appreciation he has of his own life. Because of the emotions used while writing the two essays, the writers have the ability of making us feel a certain way towards the subject of each. Although both essays show similarities in emotions to an extent, there are major differences
Whether people are black or white, rich or poor, do not let others beliefs shut down what potential someone has. In Finding Forrester, Jamal and The Man in the Window formed an indestructible bond helping each other throughout life. Breaking the bad habits each one had, and helping one another with choosing the best pathway for what is ahead of them. Everyday, everyone frequently brings themselves down
