In the quaint countryside of Saumur, France on August 19th, 1883 Gabrielle Chanel was born. Through her first years of her life, Coco found company with her five siblings. However, Gabrielle’s peripatetic father, Albert Chanel, wasn’t present in her childhood. Unfortunately, with five children and a wife to support, Albert had an extremely hard time compensating time and more importantly money for his family.
Often due to his unstable job as a merchant, Coco’s destitute family was forced to work odd jobs. Gabrielle’s mother stood as the one constant parental figure in her life until she turned 11. In February of 1895, her mother died, parting from her five children. Between work and raising his children alone, Albert Chanel felt like he had no alternate solution but to abandon his children. Though some would judge a book filled with high fashion faux paus and captivating drama, as unworthy to be noted as a book of historical importance, The House of Gucci is an accounting of one of the greatest fashion houses of the 20th century. Sara Gay Forden, the author of The House of Gucci, places you on a roller coaster of highs and lows, births and deaths, divorces and marriages, and bankruptcy and capital power. She manages to integrate a respectful look at how fashion affects us in both apparent and subtle ways. This novel reveals simply that fashion is not all about logos and Dockers, but about the ugly truth behind one of fashion’s most infamous family.

The American clothing industry is a multi-billion dollar business, this is due to the fact that everyone needs clothes. Not only do people want to wear plain clothes, they want to wear the top of line fashionable clothing. As I open my eyes to the world around me, I am blinded by the misery and the despair of people. I am subjected to seeing the lack of style exhibited. It is sinful to identify expensive blasé attire purchased for brand names that are nothing short of atrocious. In defense to this calamity, I can bring the world an extensive fashion insight, a view not a single person has tackled before. Combined textures, fabrics, and designs, undiscovered brands, form fitting and flattering attire. I can make appearances at modern and splendor fashion shows. Tying in the styles exhibited into everyday wear; combined with taste and sophistication. I can reveal different fashions for different personalities, and help people uncover their inner-character. I can inform the public of colors that look good together, and identify clothes you shouldn’t be caught dead wearing. As a fashion journalist, I will close the windows of yesterday and open doors of today and tomorrow. Identifying trends, revealing hip shops, and traveling to fashion exhibits, overpriced name brands will be replaced with glamorous st...

Sparkly tops, cozy pants; we never know where they come from. Maybe a kid made them under horrible conditions, you never know. My mom used to buy a lot of Gap clothes, but during 2005 she stopped. I was little so I didn’t understand, but my oldest sister did. Some rumors were going around that Gap made kids work. They forced them to produce clothing , only gaining one cent per month, they were paid less than adults. Kids were sewing and packaging the clothes. When my sister became an adolescent she started getting picky about clothing. She always wanted to dress like everyone, and the brand trendy new handbag of year was part of it. Living in Paris during a part of her teen years made her very picky and critical over how people were dressed. Paris is known for being a very influential city on fashion. I shop a lot, and Gallerie Lafayette is one of my favorite places. They have some very famous designer brands, and some very expensive prices too. On Christmas, all of Paris’s shop windows were decorated with moving dolls, created by Karl Lagerfeld. When I shop for outfits, I never know where they come from. Despite the fact I can’t know who made it, I can still know the history behind it.With all the things I know, I hope my presentation will turn out great. Learning about this topic more deeply will also help in life. At first, I didn’t what topic to choose, when Fashion popped out of my head I was very ecstatic. Being able to share something I am truly passionate about with the class is exciting.
Fashion plays an important role in the lives of billions all over the world; people, as part of a status craving society, turn to “fashion capitals” of the world for ways in which to dress and carry themselves. New York, Milan, and Paris are leaders among this fierce industry that the world lusts after. Fashion can speak volumes about ones personality, or also about the condition the world is in at the time. In France, fashion changed rapidly and feverously as the times changed.
In contrast to her later years of triumph, Coco Chanel endured an impoverished childhood. Her mother passed away in February 16th, 1895 due to exhaustion and overwork at age 33. Her father, named Albert, was left with Chanel and her four siblings. Her father was a peddler, whose job was to travel from place to place and sell small goods. He did not have enough income to care for all five of his children, so he “farmed out” the kids to his relatives and orphanages right after Chanel’s mother died. He sent Chanel, a young child of age 12, to an orphanage belonging to a Catholic monastery in Aubazine.
