My favorite television show that I like to sit down and watch at the end of a long day is Reba. I always look forward to relaxing in front of the TV and watching the witty thirty-minute episodes. This show provides me the perfect comic relief at the time of day I need it most.
The show features Reba playing the role of a single, divorced, mother with three children, a son-in-law, and a grandchild all living under her roof. Her ex-husband, Brock, and his younger, somewhat dimwitted new wife, Barbra Jean also live nearby and are constantly dropping in unexpectedly. Reba has a very strong, independent personality. She seems to deal with problems with Brock and Barbra Jean with sarcasm and with her kids by means of love and understanding.
The show begins with Reba and her family at therapy trying to solve problems concerning Reba’s husband, Brock, a dentist, having an affair resulting in his dental hygienist being pregnant. During this session Reba also finds out that her beautiful, popular, seventeen-year-old daughter, Cheyenne is pregnant by her boyfriend and star of the football team, Van Montgomery. During this time Reba finds the strength to take care of her family and make decisions in tough circumstances. She allows Cheyenne to get married and reluctantly accepts Barbra Jean into her life for the sake of her children.
Most people would consider Brock as a man going through a middle-age crisis. He gets remarried to a younger blonde, goes to a tanning salon, and also gets his teeth whitened. Although he is committed to Barbra Jean, Brock still goes to Reba for advice. He sometimes seems regretful for his past mistakes and even struggles with depression. The theme song for the show is one of Reba McEntire’s greatest hits “I’m a Survivor”. Reba is “A single mom who works too hard, loves her kids and never stops, with gentle hands and the heart of a fighter.” She accepts and adapts to the changes in her life as we all do from time to time. She is a good example of keeping your family close and doing what is best for your loved ones even if the scenario is not ideal.
I really enjoy watching the characters in this TV show deal with the challenges they face. Each character has a different personality and role in the family dynamic. There are many storylines that families can relate to in the episodes. The characters deal with day-to-day situations such as discipline of children, sibling relationships, religion, and marriage issues. Ultimately, they always communicate and find a solution.
In conclusion, a family is presented as a haven of care and love and a social unit of teaching values, especially for growing kids. However, the family does not seclude a person from the larger society, thereby giving all the members a choice to live their own life. Through the review of the movie, Tom and Matt were used by the director to define family and cultural values.

How many people today watch family sitcoms to imitate or compare values with their own? Probably not as many as there were in the 1950s. In Stephanie Coontz's "What We Really Miss about the 1950s", she discusses why people feel more nostalgic towards growing up in the 1950s, and how she disagrees that 1950s wasn't the decade that we really should like or remember best. Apart from economic stability, family values played an important part then. Through television sitcoms, such as "Leave it to Beaver", "Father knows Best", families watched them to make sure they were living correctly. It was like guidance and somewhat reassurance. However, values of families have changed, and this is shown on sitcoms today. We watch sitcoms today for entertainment, and sometimes we can relate to them because the setting is realistic. In the modern sitcom, "Gilmore Girls" characters and plot are used to demonstrate family values such as gender roles, children roles, economic status, morals, ethics and general organization of a family that differ from the values shown in the 1950s sitcoms.
For my Advanced Marriage and Family class we were required to pick a family and present it to the class using Bowen Family System Therapy. The family I chose to write about would be Fantasia Barrino. Fantasia Barrino was the finalist on American Idol. Fantasia won the hearts of so many fans while she was on the show because of her interesting life story. Due to her unique life story, there has been a biography written, a movie created and she even had her own reality show shortly after she won American Idol in 2004.
The Brady Bunch tends to say that our society is corrupt in a way. It displays many problems that people deal with on a daily basis and expresses how they feel they should be fixed. The show tries to get across to the audience that even though there are some people out there that are not right in the head, you yourself still have to be. Mike Brady, the father always gives out these lessons. For example when Marcia's new boyfriend steals Greg's phony playbook for the football game, Mike tells Greg that in actuality, Greg would win the game by cheating himself, unless he confessed to Marcia's boyfriend and told him the truth. After doing so, Greg and his team prevailed as champions of that game.

When speaking of these women and their family life, the show shows its viewers that family life in modern times is dramatic, full of misrepresentations of how people are perceived, and how fame comes at the cost of family. The show stands strong with the critics and its faithful viewers around the world. Clearly, the show is not going astray anytime soon. Families who watch the show will eat up the drama and prays that their families never deal with those petty types of problems. The world will keep spinning in the television cycle, and drama will continue to invade the homes of millions of Americans.
Is High School football a sport, or is it more than that to some people? Recent newspaper headlines include such items as coaches abusing student athletes; fathers of athletes murdering coaches, and mother’s disabilitating cheerleading candidates to assure their daughters make the cheerleading team. In Odessa, Texas high school football is a major contributor to the society of a small town in Texas society. Every Friday night, 50,000 people fill the stadium to see high school students put their lives on the line to win a football game. H. G. Bissinger writes a novel called Friday Night Lights, about a year in 1988 where High School players prepare and play on the High School team, and what an impact they have on a small city in Texas.

Blood cannot be staged even when family values are. In Reality-TV family values, you can be the worst parent in the world but as long as you put family above all else. You can make yourself a martyr for your families happiness. Showing the world they too can have true happiness beyond all the money and recognition just by loving their family. The most important thing in life is family as long as it is like mine. The family unit and values must be put above everything else in life.
High school athletics leave a major impact on everybody that is involved with them. It also can even leave a mark on people who aren’t associated with them. There are many conflicting opinions on whether high school sports are a positive or negative influence on a student’s life. Athletics in high school can have an effect on the community as a whole. In H.G. Bisssinger’s highly regarded Friday Night Lights, high school football is accurately portrayed as the most important thing in Texas; it receives much more attention than academics. Football players are often treated like celebrities; yielding confidence, and at the same time creating pressure.
Therefore, family problems can have a great effect on the lives of the people within the family. Kaslik shows this by making Giselle and Holly’s verbal and physical fights, and their creation of imaginary friends. But in the end no matter how you deal with stress, whether by loss of appetite or jumping off a bridge, family is family, and they are always there for each other even if they feel like the family is separated.
One Tree Hill is an American series that started back in 2003. It is set in a fictional town Tree Hill in North Carolina. One Tree Hill is a nine season story that starts off junior year in high school. Each episode focuses on relationships with friends, partners and parents. This is a hit TV drama, what makes it great is the message behind each plot, relatability, interesting actors, unique soundtrack, and good use of camera angles.
As the first rays of the sun peak over the horizon, penetrating the dark, soft light illuminates the mist rising up from the ground, forming an eerie, almost surreal landscape. The ground sparkles, wet with dew, and while walking from the truck to the barn, my riding boots soak it in. The crickets still chirp, only slower now. They know that daytime fast approaches. Sounds, the soft rustling of hooves, a snort, and from far down the aisle a sharp whinny that begs for breakfast, inform me that the crickets are not the only ones preparing for the day.
...nyone makes they are always there for each other. Not everyone is perfect and Modern Family shows that no matter what decisions you make you will always have your family. Many viewers can relate this to their families because it is something that is an occurrence or problem in every family. Modern Family does a terrific job in showing how family members should be treated.
