Too Good To Be True If something sounds too good to be true is usually is too good to be true. My husband and I were recently approached and offered a living arrangement that sounded perfect, to my husband anyway. I was a little skeptical but my husband was able to convince me that it was the best possible scenario for our family. About two years ago my step father-in-law decided that he wanted to complete the rest of his career overseas. This was a minimum ten year venture for him. All furniture except bedroom suites was sold. We sold some on craigslist, had three yard sales, and the donated the remaining items to habitat for humanity. We readied our home and listed the home for rent. We had a tenant lined up within three days. We packed what was left and moved in to my mother-in-law’s home. Everything went well or about a year and a half we got along wonderful. My mother-in-law being a teacher at the local high school was such a great help in transporting the children to school. I made sure dinner was cooked each evening and the house was cleaned up. On the weekends you would find al five of us working in the yard together and enjoying the pool on hot afternoons. I stayed in Texas for two years until one day I came home from school to find my mom packing up all of our belongings into our big red Toyota truck. It is more expensive to keep and move a whole lot of things. Take some time to go through everything in the house and be realistic about what you use and what you no longer need anymore. Growing up, I was raised by a single mom who gave birth to me while attending college which meant we didn’t have a lot. I still remember being woken up early in the morning by her and driven to my grandparents where they would watch me while she took on 2 shifts each day. Because of the amount of hours, she would work my grandparents took on the role of taking me to my school functions and sporting events. Although it was hard not always having my biggest fan there to cheer me on I knew inside that she would give anything to be there watching but someone had to put food on the table. We had to move quite often due to my mom’s job constantly relocating her to different branches. By the time, I had entered the 1st grade my mother and I were moving into our 5th residence in the Houston area. I was still in my adolescence so moving never seemed to bother me as long as I had my toys and a TV I was pretty content.

As my stepparents leave the room, my parents inform me they have created a living arrangement schedule. I will spend one week with my dad and one week with my mother. My mother had vowed to keep me from my dad. Now she is giving him a second chance.

When my dad returned things almost immediately went back to the way they were when he was around, which was good, but at the same time my mom was doing things that she had really never done before. This change in my mom continued even when my dad was back. He had some trouble at first adjusting to my mom’s new career, but everything worked out okay.
