Benefits of Medical Marijuana and Legalization Marijuana is a natural plant and an effective pain reliever, it contains hundreds of natural chemical compounds that work with one’s body to produce positive effects that support healing and has been around for centuries. “Cannabinoids are pharmacologically active compounds. THC is one of them. When you use marijuana, the cannabinoids find their way to their target, you body’s cannabinoid receptors. The cannabinoids bind to one of the receptors.” (Martin, Carter and Rosenthal). Those who are deciding how to help treat a complex medical condition in order to obtain a good quality of life would benefit more if medical marijuana was legal and accessible in each state. Too many people have deep-seated fears about using and legalizing marijuana because of the criminality associated with it, although only those who have been diagnosed with approved medical conditions would be the only ones allowed usage of it. The efficiency of using marijuana as a medicine benefits the health of those who use it to treat their condition. Legalizing medical marijuana would create an excellent opportunity for revenue due to taxation as well as relieve pain and suffering for those using marijuana to treat epilepsy/seizures, post-traumatic stress disorder and cancer without having to deal with debilitating side effects from taking numerous prescribed medications. Medical marijuana is a more effective and natural way to manage a seizure disorder. “Marijuana has been shown to successfully control symptoms related to spasm-inducing disorders such as epilepsy or MS. The negative views on marijuana are driven by false assumptions when in fact research and evidence prove that marijuana is a natural medicine with positive outcomes for those using it. Legalization would allow further research into marijuana’s medical benefits, it would produce ongoing revenue and create new jobs that are needed within the economy and much more thus showing the immediate need for legalization nationwide.
