This kind of generalized statement will be appealing to the close-minded or the uninformed. Nevertheless, he continued to skew the known advantages of GM foods to make it look harmful to us. For instance, he mentioned that genetically modified soybean, corn, and canola [super-plants] allow farmers to spray the crop with toxic Roundup weed killer without killing the plants.³ In addition to these [super-plants], inserted genes from an insect- killing bacterium called Bacillus thuringiensis (B.t.) into corn, which is activated in every cell, is capable of producing harmful B.t. toxins. Consequently, researchers found B.t. in GM foods to cause cell damage in mammals.³ Moreover, Campbell does not think genetic engineering is the only way to feed the hungry world, and university trials of these GM grains yield are no better—and in some case far worse—than ordinary seeds.³ Let’s look at his statistical data. He listed “about 40% for soybeans, 20% for corn, and a percentage of the potatoes are grown in the U.S. and about 50% of the canola grown in Canada have all been genetically altered”³ What sort of fuzzy math is that? He failed to pinpoint the year the data represents and where it came from. In addition, he does not show other options to feed the hungry world. This proves the author is not trustworthy to write on this issue. The author of "Did You Know Your Food is Genetically Altered?" is biased in his arguments on genetically modified foods, because he failed to look at the pros and cons of GM foods.
He took all of the known intended qualities of GM foods and put a negative spin on them. The article is supported with limited scientific data, and only the negatives were used to support his case. This article failed to show the entire...
