Since the population is expanding at a rate that the environment cannot keep up with, GMO’s may be able to offer a way in which the environment can sustain everyone. Africa, the largest continent in the world cannot produce enough food to support its population due to their poor climate. However, the genetically modified organisms in food have been designed to be, “…more resistant to harsher environmental conditions such as drought, extreme temperatures, and increased salinity” (Zhuge 1). Along with Africa, places like California, GMO’s may become vital for their agriculture in the future due to droughts, and temperature extremes. Genetically modified foods will allow people to expand to different geographical areas that may not be suitable and could not sustain a large population.
