Professional basketball is a very hard sport. Not many people have the chance to get that opportunity that others do. In fact 0.03% of high school basketball players make it to the professional basketball league. Also 1.3% of college players make it to the NBA. (“The odds of playing in the NBA.”). In this paper I will be talking about professional basketball, and will focus on three main points. The three main points I will talk about are the history about the NBA, rules, and some important people that have played in the NBA before.

The three pointer is one of the most valuable rules in the game. Some owners requested the three pointer, because they thought it was getting boring with just getting two points a play (Baughman 2). Golden State Warrior owner Franklin Miculi stormed out of the voting process and declared there was a three point shot. In the first year with the three point rule teams shot 5,000 threes (Baughman 2). They only made 28 percent of the threes that were taken. Another big rule that is in the NBA is technical fouls and intentional fouls. Players or a coach can commit a technical foul (Breakthrough basketball 5). They can get a technical foul for swearing, rude gestures, and arguing. If you get two technical fouls you get ejected for the rest of the game. Only players can commit the foul if the referee thinks they were going for the ball without accidently trying to steal the ball (Breakthrough basketball 5). An intentional foul is when a player makes physical contact with another player with no reasonable effort to steal the ball. There are always five guys on the court to start the game, and you can end with however many you want. One position in basketball is the center and it is usually the tallest and biggest guy on the team (Breakthrough basketball 6).
