Benefits of an Anti-Inflammatory Diet

Inflammation has been known to cause numerous serious and debilitating diseases; however, it doesn’t always mean that it is bad. This is the physiological process of the body that triggers a healthy immune system in response to assaults from infection, toxic agents, physical injury or damaged cells. It is also an essential first step towards healing. In some cases, inflammation can become chronic wherein, healing does not transpire and sometimes happen repeatedly that prevent proper healing.

Manage an inflammatory condition
Following an anti-inflammatory diet helps in managing a wide range of diseases and autoimmune disorders that are known to have components that is considered inflammatory. Here are several diseases that are mainly caused by inflammation or exacerbated by it.:
Alzheimer’s disease - Brain cells are destroyed by chronic inflammation resulting to cognitive decline or dementia.
Ankylosing Spondylitis - Inflammatory cytokines are known to instigate autoimmune reactions against the surfaces of the joint.
Arthritis - Joint cartilage and synovial fluid are destroyed by inflammatory cytokines, which causes swelling and joint stiffness on all types of arthritis.
Fibromyalgia - The cause of this disease is believed involve genetic, neurobiological, psychological and environmental factors. It is characterized by widespread pain caused by neurochemical imbalances that includes activation of inflammatory pathways in the brain.
Kidney failure - Nephrons and tubules in the kidneys encounter restricted circulation and damage caused by inflammatory cytokines.

Broccoli - This highly nutritious vegetable contains anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory phytonutrients that aids the body in fighting off carcinogenic compounds.
Sweet potato - Sweet potato is a good source of complex carbohydrates, manganese, beta-carotene, dietary fiber, and vitamin B6 and C. These nutrients are powerful antioxidants that help heal inflammation in the body.
