There is always help given to many Americans. The government provides so many benefits for the people of today. One of those benefits would be Welfare, it provides money to those in need to pay part off their rent or buy some groceries. Honest and hard working people that actually work seven days a week, but the money received from their job doesn’t cut it deserve all the help they need. Then there are those few people that are using the money that tax payers are providing for the use of illegal drugs. There are a few states that require drug testing in exchange for welfare, but all the states in the United States should make this a required prerequisite before receiving any kind of welfare benefit.
Welfare encompasses those government programs that provide benefits and economic assistance to no or low income Americans. It can also be defined as financial assistance to impoverished Americans, which is supplied through the taxes paid by the working class. Welfare help is usually extended to people groups other than just the poor and underprivileged such as the elderly, the disabled, students, and unpaid workers, such as mothers and caregivers. Welfare programs available in the United States include: Medicaid, Food Stamps, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Head Start, Work Study, and Medicare.
The government created the welfare program in the 1930’s during the Great Depression. The US government responded to the overwhelming number of families and individuals in need of aid by creating a welfare program that would give assistance to those who had little or no income. ...eople are assumed to stay on it forever. Only 25% of people stay on welfare for more than eight years, and many of those people have chronic illnesses, or are otherwise unable to work. It is our responsibility to better our economy and find a way to provide welfare to people who truly are in need of it.
Welfare is a privilege that is taken for granted. Americans are paying taxes so that people on welfare can buy their daily meals for their families, assist in paying rent or healthcare benefits. Americans on welfare shouldn’t take advantage of the benefits given to them. Drug testing should be conducted prior to giving anyone any kind of government assistance. It’s not just a way of not trashing the hard earn tax money, but its’ a way to soothe peoples mind knowing that the money is actually going to a good cause and not towards buying illegal drugs or substances.
