“What do you want to be when you grow up?” As a child, we have all been asked this question; and as unrealistic children, we all had dreams of being a superhero, princess, cowboy, or astronaut. Later on in life, as time went by, and as we became more knowledgeable, our answers became more serious. Some of us wanted to be teachers, business owners, or a veterinarian. However, I have always wanted to be a doctor, but not just any doctor. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a pediatrician. Now, half way through my junior year in high school, I have started to question the details of this career, and all the hard work it takes to become a part of the medical field.
What I Know
I know pediatricians are people who carry their career with them wherever they go. Pediatricians are responsible for the health and the well-being of children ages 0-18, and the work is challenging. Assuring parents their child is healthy is the biggest goal these hard working doctors have. However, I know that becoming such a career focused doctor is going to be a long journey. The process in earning a degree in medicine is difficult, and it takes years of schooling and practice.
What I Want to Know
I am curious to learn the many steps I will need to take to become a pediatrician. I want to find out what types of colleges are best for doing this, and which ones interest me. I also would like to learn how much college will cost. I know becoming a doctor requires many challenging classes, but I am anxious to know what ones they are and what they are about. Also, I hope to learn more about the role a pediatrician has in the medical field, and how important and meaningful the job is.

Every little kid has high expectations for what they want to be when they grow up. Some dream of becoming president of the United States of America, or becoming an Astronaut, a lot of little kid ’s say that they want to be a Doctor. What kids do not understand is that there are many types of doctors, like an orthopedic surgeon, who works with feet, or an oral surgeon, who works with the mouth. Another similarity to a doctor is a nurse practitioner.
I began my college career unsure of the path ahead of me. I knew I had a passion for medicine, however, I did not know which direction I would take. With the expansive amount of options offered within the fields of science and medicine, it was difficult to narrow down exactly what direction I wanted to take. I gained some clarity the summer of my sophomore year when I stayed at a close friend’s home, whose father, a practicing Medical Physician, became somewhat of a mentor to me. The passionate way in which he discussed the practice of medicine led me to develop an interest in pursuing a career as a physician. Upon doing some research, I found that a pediatrician's main duty, and the type of the work done in the career. According to Gaither (2016), the author examines who a pediatrician is and what this chosen career does in health care. According to Gaither (2016), a pediatrician’s main duty is to take care and to examine children to make sure they are in a healthy condition and are developing correctly. It also mentions that picking a pediatrician is a very important choice for the future and well being of your child. However, to goes on to mention that pediatricians are very important to have because they have extensive knowledge of a child’s health, and a pediatrician can spot illnesses quickly and diagnose them effectively. After high school people go to college. College is the step where they will figure out their life-long job. I’ve always have wanted to go into the medical field, but didn’t know what I wanted to do in it. I decided I would like to to be a pediatric oncologist. A pediatric oncologist is a physician that specializes in pediatrics. Pediatric oncologists receive further training in medical oncology. Pediatric oncologists help kids who are fighting cancer.
The career path that I want to pursue is in the medical field. I major in psychology and minor in biology because going to medical school has always been my desire. Being a pediatrician is my goal I wish to conquer. I am beyond interested and passionate about this career. It is not just a career, it is my life dreams. I want to be able to enjoy going to work every day knowing I love my job and I am here because I want to. Being a pediatrician I am able to work with children and many people of different cultures. I am thrilled to know that I will be capable of caring for sick children.
Taking care of infants, documentation of medical records, prescribing medication, and performing surgeries. These are some of the duties that pediatricians do to better the health of infants and also children. Although pediatricians can face a lot of difficulties in their career, there are also times where they are extremely appreciated for the acts that they perform in caring for others. There are many requirements to becoming a pediatrician, proper schooling, internships and a degree is what you will need in order to be successful in this career. This occupation includes some good and also some bad factors that pediatricians face while they work in this field. Although pediatricians deal with many challenges, there are also many skill oriented tasks a pediatrician can be asked to complete; performing on children with little experience is a common task that are asked of pediatricians. Being a pediatrician can be scary at times, including the fact that you may have many young children that face a life threatening situation and the care for the child depends on the pediatricians knowledge and skill set. Many people should be a pediatrician for many reasons. Because of the many opportunities, one should feel happy in this occupation.

Who would have the expertise to care for your child? From birth to age 18 Pediatricians have what it takes to ensure your child goes from a caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly. The career of a pediatrician is determination. You must be determined to make your patient feel better no matter what. In my research I will be discussing the career of a pediatrician, their influence on society and more.
Children get injured or sick every day, and it doesn’t matter whether the child goes to a doctor or a pediatrician they are still tended to by a pediatric nurse. A pediatric nurse has to have many qualities. They also have to take many different classes. A pediatric nurse’s pay can vary from location to location depending on where they are working. Pediatric nurses must endure many different things to make it into this particular work field, and have many different qualities.
Many people in this world want to make a difference in life. However, most people do not want to put in all the effort that it takes to do so. The job of a pediatrician is life-changing to many. Unfortunately, it takes drive and effort that many people do not have, to become a pediatrician. A pediatrician’s job is a highly-skilled and interesting job because he or she has the privilege to deal with and help as many children as possible.
I have known from an early age that I’ve wanted to become a doctor. Helping people has always been a passion of mine. When I was younger, I wanted to be a veterinarian. However, after working with young children I have found that I love working with them, and have a connection with children. Currently, I am interested in becoming either a neonatologist or a general pediatrician so I can continue to work with young children.

When we were younger and we were asked what we wanted to be we would usually say things like “I want to be a princess” or “I want to be just like my mom”. As we have gotten older our answers have grown with us. Now that time has gone by I don't really want to be a princess anymore. I have found something that interests me more than a castle and a big crown, helping kids and saving lives. That is why I have chosen to be a Pediatric Oncologist. I feel that pediatric oncologist do the unthinkable. They save hundreds of lives in their lifetime, say goodbye to patients every day, and spend more time with other families then their own. They dedicate over half of their day to other people and they get up and do it again the next day.

Throughout my life, I have worked towards one goal which is to become a doctor. Medicine offers the opportunity for me to integrate different scopes of science while trying to improve human life. Medicine has intrigued me throughout all my life because it??s a never ending mystery and every answer has questions, and vice versa. Upon entering my career, I had assumed that professional and financial success would surely bring personal fulfillment. This realization triggered a process of self-searching that led me to medicine. The commitment to provide others with healthcare is a serious decision for anyone. As I examined my interests and goals, however, I underwent a process of personal growth that has propelled me towards a career as a physician. A career in medicine will allow me to integrate thoroughly my passion for science into a public-service framework. Since childhood, I have loved acquiring scientific knowledge, particularly involving biological processes. During my undergraduate studies, I displayed my ability to juggle competing demands while still maintaining my academic focus; I have succeeded at school while volunteering part time, spending time with family and friends, and working part-time. To better serve my expected patient population, I worked over my English and Korean language skills. I have come to discover that a job and even a good income, without another significant purpose, will not bring satisfaction. I planed to utilize my assets, namely my problem- solving affinity, strong work ethic, and interpersonal commitment, to craft a stimulating, personally rewarding career in medicine. I have taken stock of myself, considering my skills, experiences, and goals. I have looked to family and friends, some of whom are doctors, for advice. Because of this self-examination, I have decided to pursue a career in health care. The process has been difficult at times but always illuminating. Throughout it all, I have never lost confidence - the confidence that I will actively absorb all available medical knowledge, forge friendships with fellow students, and emerge from my training as a skilful and caring physician.
