Her thoughts raced with excitement. I should get a job too, she thought to Herself. I would be away from that apartment even longer each day and maybe, just maybe I would learn how to interact with people. She was tempted to ask Rob more about the pizza place. She felt her stomach wobble, reminding her that she was about to set herself up for disappointment. Backing her ears, she blurted out.

“Rob?” Mel spoke quickly now, excited about the train of thought and her possible solution to all this confusion. "Are they hiring at Tribal Pizza?”

Rob took his eyes off the road long enough to glance over to her to see if she was mocking him, or if she was serious. It only took a moment to see that the expression on her face was the exact textbook picture of seriousness. She played with her fingernails as she waited for the answer.

"Yes, they sure are hiring. We need an employee to take orders over the phone and deal with the pick-up customers. "Why?” He hoped he didn 't look too anxious. He was hoping she wanted the position herself and wasn 't asking for any friend or relative.

"I need a job and I need one badly. Any chance they would let me interview? I have never worked before, but I need this Rob, I really need this. I am always at loose ends after school and I never have any money of my own. Working would be the perfect answer.”

He was relieved that it was for herself. He wanted more time with her, working together would give him that. “Can you run to the shop with me now?” Rob looked for a place to turn around in order for them to head in the correct direction. Rob could see that Mel was serious, he also knew that Jim needed help as soon as possible. Turning down the empty side street he maneuvered the car around in o...

"Great! I know you will be awesome here, Mel.”

Melanie smiled at his compliments and proceeded to follow him out the front door.

"I need to drop you at home since I start to work in just thirty minutes. Are you ready to go now?”

Jim spoke up “Rob, wait just a moment while I get her the Tribal Pizza gear. She can take it with her and will be ready to start tomorrow. Thanks for bringing her in. I have a feeling that she is going fit in nicely here. She must have something that causes you to give her a recommendation. Seeing her in person like this, I believe this is a girl that will do well here. She is inexperienced, but we can train her just like we did everyone else that works here. Better that she comes in fresh off the farm so to speak, than with ingrained bad work habits.”
