As a single mother it has taken quite some time to attain my goals, only to find once they were attained another goal was added. Most recently, while participating in CSULB’s commencement ceremony I found myself feeling unfulfilled. My family had left the commencement ceremony early, and even started “my” graduation party without me. It wasn’t until someone close to me reminded me that the goals I had set for myself were just that, my personal goals. I needed to feel proud of those achievements and take a moment to celebrate all the hard work it took to get here, but instead I kept adding more and more never pausing to appreciate where I had gotten. My goal is to become an occupational therapist, and currently it feels far away. Health Science Community Health Education and School Health is the degree I will receive for fall 2016. Currentely I am enrolled in a GRE perpatory workshop and plan to take the exam in the winter time. I have 2 prerequisites to complete, and 120 Occupational Therapist shadowing hours to complete before I can officially apply to a graduate school. Financial / Professional …show more content…
I currently live month to month off military pension and veteran’s scholarship for school. Once, I complete the semester here at CSULB finances will be extremely tight until I find a job. A positive about my time here at CSULB is that I was able to drastically improve my once very poor credit, and will be leaving with no debt. Professionally, I have had the past two years here at CSULB becoming educated in the field of health science, volunteered in many outreach events in the community, and had a chance to put my knowledge to use in a work environment through internship experience. I absolutely loved my internship, and am greatly looking forward to a job in a helping profession. Part of my idea of success is having a rewarding career. Rewarding is more than just making money, it is loving what you
My life experiences thus far bring the best of both worlds to my education and career goals; a student coupled with a variety of life experiences. Being a newly graduated non-traditional student, mother of school-aged children, and experience working with students in the classroom, I bring diversity to your program. Through personal analysis and efforts with other professionals, I have overcome early childhood tragedies. Desiring to make the best use of my experiences by helping others to overcome trauma, and insecure upbringings by conquering these adversities and circumstances positively. Through my example of grit, tenacity, resilience, and perseverance, I hope to offer much to the students in my role as their mentor.
My long term goals are to work while I pursue my bachelor's degree. Currently, I am interested in working in either pediatric cardiology or labor and delivery. Perhaps getting certifications in one of these areas. I know that once I am in the field I may change my mind and go in a completely different direction but since I can’t see that far down the road this is my rough outline. I am so excited and nervous to get
I have known from a young age that I wanted to help people, and since then I have searched for the opportunity and knowledge to be able to do just that. On that note, seeing the joy on my uncle’s face, after losing both of his legs and having to learn to walk again with prosthesis’s was so uplifting for me, to witness him so happy even though I wasn’t involved with his healing process. Consequently, I could only imagine how good it would feel to know that I helped him regain his independence and return a smile to his face. That was when I realized that I wanted to give back to people that are in need of assistance. These individuals may not be able to do anything about the position they are in, Hence when I become an Occupational therapist; I will

A moment when I achieved a major goal was the day I received my associate degree. Yet, it was not an easy goal to reach. I was being placed on academic probation at the end of my third semester at Montgomery college and had lost hope of graduating the following semester. It was not until that I decided to get help, work harder and be dedicated to my studies that I overcame this difficult situation. I had told myself that it was not the end of the world, and that I could still get back on track in time to make it to graduation. It worked for me, and it could for all Montgomery students on academic probation too, if they take my case as an example.
Considering my life time goals, I have always wanted a family and to be happy, but more than anything I want to redeem myself of past failures and prove that my existence on this earth is commendable. I have currently developed a sense of determination to become successful. In my current extracurricular activities and my most recent academic achievement, I am most certain that I will become the prosperous and flourishing woman I strive to be.
My immediate goals after completing this program is to take some time off from school, pay off our (additional) student loans, and when the time is right possibly evaluate the feasibility of pursuing my Bachelor Degree in Healthcare Administration or continue on in trying to obtain my Master 's Degree in Nursing. However, I currently foresee immediate challenges to those plans - my eldest child, my son, is currently a junior in high school, aspiring to become a Pharmacist and attend UH Hilo. In addition, my daughter, who is three years younger to my son, is aspiring to become an Ophthalmologist. So as with any parents, I may put my goal aside to help both my children achieve their goals.

My college career started with me just going to school to take PE classes while neglecting my main required core classes and always pushing them aside without any urgency to succeed in finishing school. A couple of years would go by with little to no progress and lack of motivation to succeed in finishing my college required classes. Soon landing a career oriented job and finding myself dropping out of college to focus on my work career. From this point and time I would learn the importance of school and the value of finish college through my years of experience at work. This awareness of value in finishing college would motivate me to want to go back to school. Soon I would find myself at American River College counseling center. Here I was coming back to school unsure of myself and in an environment where I previously never found success in school. After meeting with my counselor I was recommended to take a college success course. This course is part of a program called the Accelerated College Education (ACE). Because I was able to learn along the years being out of school the importance of gaining an education I gained a new motivation for school, signed up for this ACE program, and enroll in the college success
As my high school career ends, I notice increasingly how much life that I have yet to live and the opportunities available to me in the years ahead. The past four years have been great preparation for my future endeavors, but college is the path leading to my full potential. In order to reach the end of this path, I utilize my most valuable trait—determination—to set short and long-term goals and achieve them. It is with this “can do” spirit—like the one my grandpa, a former Navy Seabee, evinces through his stories—that I have set my personal goals: to volunteer my time in service to others, further develop leadership skills through experiential learning, and excel at my school work no matter how challenging it may seem. Though these may be difficult to maintain, I have faith that my optimistic attitude will enable me to prevail over the challenges I am certain to face.
that I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field but I was not sure
There is this saying, “Everything happens for a reason” and I believe certain things do. I believe that everything I have gone through my life has been preparing me for the beginning of a great career. This world can be a scary place, but there is also beauty in this world with lots of opportunities, and people who want to help make a difference. I want to be one of those people who inspire others to do better, to guide them and to teach them to not give up. If it was not for my counselors and mentors I would not be where I am at today. I was able to accomplish one of my goals of being the first in my family to graduate with my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from CSULA. I want to further my education to better myself, and help others along the way.
As I am preparing for a new chapter in my life, I have put a lot thought in about what I want out of life and what to look forward to as I get older. In order for one to achieve anything, they need to set goals to reach for. I have a handful of goals for my future, short term and long term, that I will actively work towards in my college years and beyond. In my time at UW Eau Claire, I plan to be involved and engaged in student activities on campus. Being active will help me meet new people, build a better resume, and have fun at college. At UWEC, I would like to get involved in anything musical, along with various clubs and Greek life. Similarly, another goal of mine is to have a job on campus. Having a job will not only help me make some
What is my personal purpose? Is a question that I have never thought to ask myself until recently. Then when I started learning more about a personal purpose I started wondering if I have one and what it was. I never thought of myself has having a real purpose until a watched an interview Will Smith had did and he had said “When your life means something to someone other than yourself than you have a purpose.” That is when I realized that I have a purpose. My purpose is that I am the hug that let others know it is going to be ok. My personal goals is to be genuinely happy with myself and life and to make my parents proud, my career goal is to own my own business and being successful at doing so, finally, my educational goal is to get my bachelors degree and grauate with honors and even moving on to getting my masters. Having goals is important to me because I know that while I am in the process of accomplishing them I will have something great to look forward to in the end.
Life contains an unlimited amount of life lessons; my main life lesson has inspired me to never give up on myself or my goals. Through my life experiences I have learned that there is no such thing as failure. I am certain with myself that I can find success through hard work and dedication. My career aspiration is to help others as a healthcare professional. More specifically, I have a dream of pursuing a career in physical therapy. Nothing gives me more self-satisfaction than to see that I am able to help people self-improve. Therefore, I have committed to studying and preparing myself for graduate school. I am currently an Undergraduate student at the University of Central Florida, destined to graduate in the Fall of 2017. There are multiple Undergraduate degree paths I can take to prepare myself for grad-school; however, I chose a path that can help me develop skills to provide the best possible service for my future patients. I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences
