Recommended: Choice of career
Many people wonder about their career and future plans in life and struggle to decide what it should be. Ever since I was young, music has been something that has laid heavy on my heart and has been very important to me. My spirituality is also something that has and will continue to be important to me. Because of my love for music and my spirituality, I want to become a music director in the Pentecostal Holiness denomination. After taking the tests on CFNC, the results on my interests, basic skills and values seem to be very accurate to who I am. The only issue I have is deciding on a four-year college or university even if I have some in mind.
According a couples of the tests I have taken on CFNC, my top interest areas are in

At the moment, my attention is focused on Appalachian State University. Appalachian has a division called the Hayes School of Music which as a concentration in Sacred Music. To be able to enter Appalachian one must have a 2.0 GPA and to enter the Hayes division one must take an audition. There is not much information about Hayes School of Music online other than the concentrations and events, so if I wanted to learn more information I would have to contact someone that works there. The cost of a university or college is very important in my decision, and because Appalachian is a state university, it would be less cost effective for me to attend. There is another college I am looking at and it is called Emmanuel College. Emmanuel College is a private college located in Georgia and it is supported by the Pentecostal Holiness Denomination. Cost-wise it is more expensive than a state college or university, especially since it is out-of-state. Many people that I know attend this college and have graduated from it. I am very unsure about what college I should attend, but the only issues and standards I have are that the college I attend should be in-expensive, have a concentration in my field, and it should be
what you feel is best to suit your needs, but do not exclude a small institution just because it is not as
I applied to UNC Asheville specifically because of its’ distinction as the designated state sponsored liberal arts university. In high school, the areas of study were limited and the course curriculums narrow. I expect a very different experience from my college education. The world is changing rapidly and I am not interested in a specializing in a focused course curriculum to fit into a slot that may not be available by the time I enter the job market. Knowing that I am not ready to concentrate my education in a specific direction is one of the main reasons I applied to UNC Asheville. During Governor’s School, I experienced a taste of the diversity offered by an Arts education and loved it. I am hoping to attend UNC Asheville and continue that experience. I am looking for college to challenge me, broaden my knowledge, and develop my ability to think for myself. I am excited about becoming part of an
The career that I chose was Performing Arts, more specifically, Musical Theatre. I would perform as a singer, dancer as well as an actress, gaining the title of a performer. My career in a small view is performing different plays and musicals for people and making everyone happy. I chose this career, because I love performing and I’ve always done some form of it through elementary school until now. I had always enjoyed singing and playing music, but when I performed in front of the student body in Play Production II, everything changed. I had learned that I loved acting and singing the same amount. I decided, if I could do one thing, I would perform in some sort of musical. It is important to understand
I believe that Virginia state university will exceed my expectations for a University. If I were to attend VSU, I would like to major in music education, as I do have a really big passion for playing my instrument. For the past few months, I have really been considering what I really want to do with my life and being a music major seems to be the only thing truly that makes sense. The reason I’m considering Virginia State for music is because my band director; in which I strive to be like,
“Recent studies show that being involved in music classes makes it easier to learn other subjects and improve skills in other classrooms” (Brown, “The Benefits of Music Education”). A lot of people tend to overlook how much music education has an impact on the success of a student. Because of this, schools should be required to offer fine arts and music classes as electives for the students. Not only will this improve the students test scores, but it will also give the students a broader imagination and more creativity in and out of the classroom. In a lot of schools, fine arts and musical classes are the first to go when there are budget cuts. “Seventy-one percent of the nation’s fifteen thousand school districts have cut instructional hours spent on music and other subjects” (“State of the arts: should music and art classes be brushed aside”). Not only is it affecting the teachers who have specialized in the study of fine arts, it is affecting all of the students and parents who are actively involved in these programs. “Johnson, professor of music education and music therapy and associate dean of the School of Fine Arts at KU, found jumps of twenty-two percent in English test scores and twenty percent in math scores at elementary schools with superior music education” (Lynch “Music Boosts Test Scores”). With that being said, schools should be required to offer music and fine arts classes as an elective for their students.
The signs you pass on the street are in English, the books your teachers give you are in English; everything we do has some sort of English surrounding it. In music the same is true about the staves, every musical thing you do is related to the Treble or Bass Clefs. If we need to read English to walk down the right street the same should be true for needing to read the music staves to be able to play an instrument correctly. English is required in all American schools but reading the staves, even though they are essential elements, are not. If music teachers required musical literacy as strictly as English was by the English teachers our musicians would be greatly improved. Musical Literacy should be a goal that all music teachers have for their students.
Why have creative skills been put on the back burner in today’s society? Some say that music education is a waste of valuable resources, takes time away from academic subjects, is noisy and distracting, when in reality this is false. Music is a valuable resource that every human being should enjoy. Although our economy has been failing lately, we should not let ourselves believe that the only way to be productive is in a field that makes us unhappy, like computers or science. In America’s recent economic downfall, music education is commonly one of the first programs to be cut in districts around the country; this should not be the case because it benefits students academically, socially, and physically throughout the rest of their lives.

Since the beginning of public education, educators have been trying to figure out how they can create the finest most successful students by giving them the tools to succeed and ability to adapt to any situation in an exciting and engaging way. The answer has already been found and yet it is struggling to hold its place in the public school curriculum. The answer is music education. The way music education is viewed by other areas of academic interest effects how it is treated. To convince non-musicians of the importance of music education, they must learn what musicians already know. They must learn what music education is capable of doing for the education of students everywhere. Once what music education can do for every person’s career and ability to succeed in the world is made common knowledge, a change in priorities can be made and music education will be realized as an essential.
I’m a student at Tompkins Cortland Community College this is my first semester as a college student. I plan to go to college for four years and only be at TC3 for this one semester, then transfer to a four year school. College has grown around the world more than ever and more people are attending college more than ever. I have chosen to go to college because of the rewards after graduation. Yes it is another four years of school but by getting more education and an extended degree gives me more opportunities for better jobs and more money. The career I have chosen to study is business administration. I am hoping that it takes me to a great job managing a company or possibly being an accountant.
As an international undergraduate student earning a Bachelor of Science degree in biology at Suffolk University, I had every intention of becoming a Scientist. However, while I completed an internship, a few part time positions and full time administrative/support positions in the field, I realized that I no longer desired to pursue this as a career. Although I valued doing hands-on research, and assisting people in bettering themselves, I found that the field did not call for the formation of more skills, relationships or engaging in mutual mentorship with other scientist to the level that I desired and had experienced through interactions with fellow researchers as a young professional. As a result of this realization, I decided to apply for a lab inventory specialist position in a pharmaceutical company after graduation.
What is a songwriter? You probably think its someone who writes words that have no meaning to it, songwriting is more than that. A songwriter is an individual who writes lyrics, melodies and chord progressions of any genre he wishes to write about. A songwriter may be also called a Composer.
Music is one of the most fantastical forms of entertainment. Its history stretches all the way from the primitive polyrhythmic drums in Africa to our modern day pop music we listen to on our phones. It has the ability to amaze us, to capture our attention and leave us in awe. It soothes the hearts of billions, and it is so deeply rooted in my life that it has touched my heart as well. Everyday I walk to the beat of the song stuck in my head and hum along to the melody. For me, to listen to music be lifted into the air by the hands of your imagination and float around for a while. You forget about your worries, your troubles and find peace within the sound. Every chapter in my life is attached with a song. Every time I listen to a certain song, thoughts of my past come flooding back
Although money isn’t everything, being financially secure is very important. Money can’t buy love or happiness, but it makes life easier knowing you have a house to go home to, food in your fridge, and clothes to put on your back. My family had a hard time when I was growing up with making ends meet and I want to make sure that I do everything in my power to keep that from happening to my future family. If I apply myself in college and strive for knowledge, I will have the potential to become very adept in my field which will help me achieve my goal of financial stability because I’ll be able to keep a job. I also hope for my future that I stay open to new experiences, whatever the world may throw at me. I want to be able to travel and see new cultures, societies, and people. Hand-in-hand with traveling, I would love to volunteer all over the world, as well. I take great pride in doing volunteer work and it would be an enlightening experience to be able to help out around the world. Something else I am passionate about is music. I hope that I have the time and ability to continue on with my music career as my life progresses. Doing bands and music things at UWEC will help me to achieve this goal because I will learn immensely under great instruction. Going to UW Eau Claire will aid me in reaching all of these goals I have set myself. I am excited to see what my future holds for me
The process of choosing a career is, many times, a difficult decision. Many factors must be taken into account while deciding a career. Such factors usually include pay, work environment, and most importantly, what the person is interested in. Becoming a musician would be a highly fulfilling career for the reasons of broadening one’s musical abilities, people enjoying something that an individual made, and traveling the country, possibly even the world, for musical opportunities such as teaching, performing, and writing.
