Aspiring to Be a Corporate Event Manager
“In every group of friends, there 's one person who always seems to take charge of party planning. He or she somehow knows how to make sure everyone has a good time” McKay (2015). In my group of friends, that person is me. I jump at the opportunity to entertain; every birthday celebration, sorority function, and weekend vacation has my name written all over it. My passion for party planning has led me to pursue a career in the hospitality industry with hopes of becoming a corporate event manager.
Confirming Your Skills Align
Before deciding on a career path it is important to ensure your skills and qualities match up with those required by the job. Organization, time management, and strong written and verbal communication skills come to mind when I think of my most valuable skills. “Event planning requires creativity, organization and flexibility” Wake Forest University (2016). As a Marketing major, creativity comes natural to me. I am constantly brainstorming and putting new ideas to use. Organization is also an extremely important aspect of my everyday life. I keep my agenda updated and continuously make to-do lists to stay on track and remain flexible.

The special events industry is a dynamic, diverse field that has seen considerable growth and change over the past 40 years Walker (2016). Pursuing a career in a growing field is imperative for job security purposes. I will be working at least 40 hours a week for 40 years or more; I want to be confident in my position and have the opportunity to be promoted within the industry. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that job growth will be faster than the average for all occupations through 2020 McKay (2015). Finally, leadership, my most valuable skill. Leadership is useful in any career and any situation. In band, I've used it a lot. Now that I'm going into the real world and my career, I know I will use it even more. My leadership has rewarded me personally. I feel like I have already made a difference in the lives of my peers. Leadership can get me anywhere in life and I expect that this alone could get me all the way to my college graduation. These skills in combination will keep me on top, and hopefully at the top of my college
You have to know how to listen to others without interrupting, know how to problem solve, and know how to weigh out the pros and cons of situations and pick the best option. Your personality has to consist of liking to help people, teach, talk, be dependable, have a concern for others, and have stress tolerance just to name a few. When doing my unit 3 learning activity, I learned that I am a social person as well as I enjoy helping people and being of service to them, teach, search for facts, and figure out problems. I’m very good at working individually but I also know how to work on a team and be a team player so I feel that will definitely help me out. My personality profile really lined up with the personality traits you need to have when working in my chosen profession. The only thing I can think of that I may need to work on is knowing how to tolerate stress especially since I will be working in a very stressful

I like selling things and interacting with others. I just picked this career because my skills that I believe are my best skills are necessary for this career. Other features that are important with becoming a Marketing Manager are: Analytical, Communication, Creativity, Decision-making, Interpersonal, and Organization. I think that all the skills that are needed to become a Marketing Manger is something that I do very well. Some of the skills I have I do way better than others. Then there 's some skills I need to work on just a bit. For example, I am really good at communicating and being creative. My down fall with these skills would mostly be my organization
The first of the two careers to be analysed is an event manager, sometimes also called event organisers or event planners. Prospects UK (2012) describes event managers as being the ones responsible for event production from its conception, right through to its completion. This can include the initial planning and organisation of the event, the development of a management plan to assist in the preparation (Gascoyne Development Commission, n.d.), and the coordination of all aspects of the event on the day its being held (Prospects UK 2012). This career was chosen as I feel like I would enjoy the creative aspects of planning my own unique, memorable and enjoyable events.
Many of my friends pick their careers based on money and trade skills that they have. I am proficient in art and design, but didn’t feel like that was what I wanted to do for my career. Your career shapes a huge portion of your life. It is what you do every day, for a large portion of your life. It is what I have prepared for the past 12 or so years of my life. It is way more than just money or a skill. I wanted to do something unique, something interesting, something that would inspire me to be a better human, something that would make me feel, something that is challenging, something that helped others, and above all, something that was rewarding and made me feel fulfilled.
As I have noted, I truly believe that the numerous job skills that are needed to be successful include dedication, communication, and adaptation. First of all, you must be devoted to your career if you want exemplary results. Equally important, being able to articulate your ideas, and intellectually communicate said ideas will ensure a successful time at you occupation. Last but not least, in order to be successful in your employment, you must be flexible to the obstacles that are inevitable. I urge you to strive to obtain these essential job skills because they are worthwhile.
While working or while looking for work there are certain skills sets that are universally important. No matter what job or career path you have chosen these skills make it easier to obtain your goals, whatever they may be.
Planning a Party The process of planning a party takes a lot of time and focus to get every detail covered. First of all, you must decide where you will have the party, maybe a club house or your own home. When you have that decided, then there are several other steps you must take in order for your party to be successful. You have decided on a location, and now it is time to make a list of the people who will be attending.
Children place a high importance on the success of birthday parties. For children, a birthday is a special day, filled with friends, cake and presents. For parents, children's birthdays are seen as ideal social settings to converse with others and maintain family unity. However, a birthday party must be planned effectively to ensure its success. Lack of preparation will lead to a birthday party's downfall.
As an Event Assistant my main responsibility is to provide administrative support and customer service for events in lower mainland, national and international locations. This entails, continuously to be in contact with various alumni from different demographics and be the point of contact. My position also necessitates me to work in conjunction with 5 events managers who have different working styles. Working on multiple events at the same time with similar deadlines there is grave need to develop prioritizing skills and change them at a moment’s notice if need arises.
Event planning is a very personally rewarding career. Not only is it personally rewarding, but it also offers benefits such as gaining public recognition, and financial rewards. Besides that, event planning offers the individual flexibility, and independence (being able to start your own event planning business). Even though this job seems ideally easy and person...
The first strength I would bring to the event planning industry is my ability to budget and manage money. With my personal finances, I am very strict about my spending habits, and I am constantly trying to find ways to save money. For example, I spent hours this past weekend researching the best deals on kitchen supplies for my house next fall. I made a spreadsheet of all of my options that fit the perfect balance between price and quality along with dozens of promo codes that could apply, and it quite literally paid off. My ability to organize and manage my own money as well as to save money would be beneficial in the event planning industry. I would be able to offer my clients various options based on a wide variety of different budgets. Prioritizing is key; it is important to determine which areas would be most
