As we run towards the field, I can hear the echoes of the enormous crowd roaring down on the player’s entrance of the Texan’s Stadium. My team gallops behind me like wild horses that are ready for a stampede. I move them forward to reach their destination. Just as I reach the entrance into the dome, where the fog rises up to give that more dramatic feeling, I think back and wonder, “What got me here today?” “What made me who I am today?” Four years of kinesiology leading the way to pee-wee football where letting everyone play; turned into high school football, where the best players play. With patience and a strong persistent attitude, putting in at least sixty to seventy hours a week, and struggling with the disadvantages of less time with the family. Continuously working hard to be the best; trying to accomplish goals of making those thirty to fifty thousand dollars a year, watching kid after kid fight for their spot on the football team. Staying up late and going through play after play just to find that one detail that will help you gain those two extra yards that can get you that touchdown and the win. That’s the life of a high school coach according to Coach Lance Butler; he is the coach of the Wells Lady Pirate softball team.
The requirements for coaches has changed over the years; high school coaches these days not only have to study kinesiology, but now they have to teach as well and find a class that best fits them such as math or science, so that they will have an advantage and more job security. Coaches who teach a class also build a relationship with their players; it builds a better understanding of when the books come first. Many coaches put in so much to achieve their goals and some don’t even become coaches because they’re not cut out for it or they give up. You must be willing to give your all and so much more and be willing to take the responsibility of the young men and maybe the girls who put their lives and dreams in your hands. Coaching is not a job that someone who is just looking for a job should go in to; there needs to be passion and a genuine love for the game, because remember you are dealing with each and every child’ future whether it be in that certain sport or in life. Their future is something special.

It’s insane how many players do not even know their true potential. Successful coaches assess these individuals and the team to advance them to the next level of sports. "The Little Book of Coaching, Motivating People to be Winners" by Ken Blanchard and Don Shula (2001) gives a great acronym of the word C-O-A-C-H. The acronym breaks down as follows: Conviction Driven: never compromise your beliefs-Overlearning: practice until it is perfect-Audible-Ready: know when to change-Consistency: respond predictably to performance-Honesty-Based: walk your talk. These youth coaches are more influential on a child’s perception of a leader than Teachers, Principals of Schools and in some cases even more than their parents. A youth sports coach is influencing and teaching our children to become leaders, and in most cases they are teaching them to be a poor leader. Usually a youth sports coach will coach a child in two sports, covering nine months of the year, for six to eight years. A teacher is usually only in the child’s life for eight months. As President of Cherry Creek Youth Sports over the last five years, I have seen many leaders or coaches that are a positive influence on the kids. Sadly, that is not the majority. When a child is going to play a sport, they should play to have fun, to bond with their friends and improve (Silverman, 2010). Most youth coaches are coaching to...

Teachers who dubble as a coach often split commitments between being a coaching and teaching such as when schools have to find substitutes for the days the teachers are gone with their team. Referring to Ripleys Article Sports are embedded in American schools in a way they are not almost anywhere else. Yet this difference hardly ever comes up in domestic debates about America’s international mediocrity in education (Ripley,2). Reading an article that compared European Schools to American Schools showed that Europe focuses more on the academic aspect and has after school clubs and sports, not in-school athletics and clubs. (Loh,1). In Asia, although they have some clubs and sports inside school, like math club and honor society, the majority of the activities take place outside of school.Stevenson stated in his article about Asia's success teachers need the proper training and time to be able to help the students understand the course material and be able to excel in the academics, which is often lost when the teachers double as coachs and is becoming more and more common among school districts (Stevenson,4). These are just some of the di...
When I think of coaching I think of practice planning, game planning, scouting strategizing of offense and defense, choosing my starters, little things like that. All of those ideas are valid, but that’s not the whole picture. There is a lot more to coaching than planning for a practice or a game. Many times a person who would like to coach an interschool athletic team has little or no preparation to teach sports skills and techniques. The only qualifications is often the person’s participation on his or her high school, college, or university’s team, coach of a community youth team or even perhaps as a professional player. While all that experience is valuable in one way or another, it does not constitute an adequate preparation for coaching an interschool team as an integral part of the school’s physical education program Regardless of the experience or teaching certificates a person may have, State Education Law, Article (6), Section 300lb, requires, “That a person employed as a coach of an interschool athletic team must old valid first aid skills and knowledge certification (12 hours of initial training), and adult CPR certification (4 hour training). “Within the coaching profession there are three potential secondary school coaches: (1)a certified physical education teacher, (2) a teacher certified in an area other that physical education, (English, Mathematics), (3)holds no teaching certification and must qualify for a “Temporary Coaching License.”

John wooden a former player and later became a basketball coach once said. “A coach much never forget that he is a leader and not merely a person with authority.” Basketball has been something in our everyday lives for a while. To allot it something they just can't live without and others just choose to not even bother with it. I think that it is worth the time to look more into basketball. Basketball can be started at a elementary school level, and they can usually go to sign up at local boys and girls clubs maybe at their school if they offer it and can even join through their church if they attend one and they offer it to them. Being a coach seems easy to most parents but it really isn't how it isn't is a coach must ensure that players
One negative aspect is that individual will miss out spending time with his or hers family due to putting in long nights of watching film, trying to fix their defense or offense by adjusting their players spots, or even spending time with their players after practice or in the off season getting them stronger (“https://careertrend.com/disadvantages-being-coach-1624.html”). I want to set examples of leadership and show younger people and children how to have positive and courageous qualities just as I will hope to have as I work towards my dreams of being a coach. Baseball may just be one diamond, four plates, nine players, a sweaty uniform, cleats, a bat, and a ball to you, but to me it’s a lifestyle and career choice that I want to live and work towards for the rest of my years to

My internship spends as a football coach has really been an eye-opener for me; especially sacrificing at least 15 hours per week of commitment. Being a football coach showed me that you need to be at nearly every practice, rain or shine, sick or healthy, job or no job. The biggest thing as a high school coach and teaching as well estimate between 30-35 hours a week. For college, as a full-time coach, think somewhere between 60-80 hours a week. I chose this lifestyle because I wanted to work in a field which I’ll love to make progression in. Moreover, coaching sports period gives me thrill to help another student-athlete excel at another level. This internship being an assistant football coach was an offer to help out as an unpaid assistant
