The path to becoming a clinical social worker has been as rewarding as it has been challenging. I have enjoyed every moment of learning as it has helped shape me into the person and professional I want to be. My original career path was not that of a Social Worker but once I had chosen the path of becoming a Social Worker everything started to make sense. I felt like I had found a place to belong and a feeling of “rightness”. I feel I still have a lot to learn when it comes to being a clinical Social Worker. I feel that I am able to perform many different theories or practices but I have a hard time putting a name to the theory that I am using. Honestly, a social workers job is never done so I expect to be learning for the rest of my life. I want to be able to help as many people as I can with the work that I am doing in the most ethical and professional way. I feel that my passion for helping others and drive to become a clinical social worker fit the mission of AU and NASW.

By taking a few years off between my undergraduate and my graduate programs I was able to receive experience in the field and gain knowledge that I would not have had, had I gone straight through. Going into the Graduate program I feel prepared to face the challenges that it will present. I feel the background I established in the undergraduate program and in the field will help me every step of my journey. The classes that AU provides for it’s students have been extremely helpful in guiding my academic learning. The cla...

Sometimes knowing that there are others in the world feeling the same way can really help a client feel a bit better. I never use self-disclosure as a way to make myself feel better and always put the needs of the client first.
The choices I have made in my life have helped shaped the person that I am and the person that I will become. Choosing to go down the path of that of a Social Worker has been one of the most fulfilling decisions I have ever made. I look forward to my future and the people that I will one day be influencing. I know the road will not be easy but it will be rewarding and worthwhile. I will strive for excellence in all areas of my life and keep my passion for helping others at the forefront of my mind.
