Blessed are the ugly, for people will genuinely love them// Blessed are the poor in stature, for they will be treasured The beatitudes mark the start of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, and are simple statements that lead you toward the Kingdom of God. Jesus’ words have authority, and if you have read Matthew 5, you know that blessed are the ugly is not in the passage. Have no fear; this is NOT a new commandment that I am writing to you (Scripture is inspired, this article is not). What I believe to be true, however, is the message behind this phrase. We live in a culture where appearance is everything. If you have Facebook account, you know this fact. Just two months ago, a 34-year-old man in Dubai divorced his 28-year-old wife on their honeymoon How does this apply in today’s culture? When a woman is outwardly beautiful, she attracts a lot of suitors, many who only care about her appearance. They love her looks and do not care about her heart. Is this her fault? Absolutely not! She may be a beautiful godly woman, but the people she attracts will not always love her the right way. However, if a woman is plain in appearance (or even ugly), she will naturally attract less shallow suitors. These men are MUCH more likely to fall in love with her inward beauty, rather than her outward appearance. All of the conceited men instead follow after more attractive women, blinded by the lust of their I cannot remember the last time I met someone who I would characterize as “ugly.” This word stems from a lack of self-esteem, and considering we are ALL made in the image of God, we all have inner and outer beauty (Genesis 1:27). If you don’t believe me, ask your mom, dad, or best friend, and I guarantee they will agree with me. Not only are you beautiful, but also infinitely valuable, as Christ gave up his life for you (Romans 5:8). You are a child of the Most High God, and are of indescribable value (Psalm 82:6). Never let anyone tell you anything
Pollitt states, “women’s looks matter terribly in this society” (2). It is true that some people presently value looks immensely; they would rather spend money on materialistic objects than their necessities. Blum would add that girls and boys are taught from a very young age right from wrong, what is attractive and what is not, and gender appropriate activities. Blum often quotes from an endocrinologist named Marc Breedlove to support her views, and Breedlove’s quote “yes we’re born with predispositions, but its society that amplifies them, exaggerates them” (512), fits in perfectly to what Blum would respond. Blum’s response would also incorporate that if looks weren 't so highly esteemed in our society our predispositions would do the job that society feels the need to take over. If it were just up to people’s own predispositions there wouldn 't be a need to over prioritize them nonetheless exaggerate
Most of the time in our society, we judge the people by their appearance. The important thing that most of the attractive people should know is that no one chose to be born ugly or not. Being attractive doesn't mean being physical looks good. Also, we need to consider that sometimes the most attractive people have the worst manners ever. Usually, they are smugglers and have bad behaviors. But we have to admit that we made that mistake. We have given value to the beauty and neglected morality. For me, appearance is not everything, because if I am communicating with somebody, I need him to be respectful to me, as I am respectful to him. I am not saying that the attractive people disrespectful, but a lot of them have sick thoughts. They think
The satirical article by Dave Barry “The Ugly Truth About Beauty,” exposes the idea that, when it comes to appearance women thinks less of themselves, when compared to men.

First, Connie and her mother focused on outward beauty rather than inward beauty, which can never be tarnished. Connie’s mother was jealous of her daughter’s beauty, because she knew she could no longer attain the beauty that she once possessed. She often scolded her daughter for admiring her own beauty in order to make herself feel more secure inside. Connie did not try in the least bit to make her mother’s struggle any easier, but instead gawked at her own beauty directly in front of her mother, and often compared her own beauty to others.
I’ve always heard you never get a second chance to make first impression and, beauty is only skin deep. I will review and explore two literary stories, the authors and the times they were written in, to unravel their perversion of vanity; and how obsessive vanity can cause a person to have a distorted view on priorities. And finally, a comparison of how the viewpoints are similar. Briefly, I will state what most people over look, and that is, appearances are not the most important thing. You can appear well off, and not have much substance at all.

Trust me girls, even if you think you’re ugly, there is still some hope for you. For example, the unfortunate looking Mia Thermopolis from the movie (Princess Diary’s) found out that she is the heir apparent to the throne of Genovia. There was no way that her grandmother was going to allow her to look like a complete mess in front of the entire country. She was turned into a pretty young lady and taught to act like a princess. If Mia can do it… you can too! (Princess Diary’s)
In his novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde stated, “It is better to be beautiful than to be good….” This quote encompasses the stress society places on beauty, as Wilde explains the importance of beauty even surpasses a great personality. Nevertheless, Thought Catalog contributor Amanda Ting disagrees with Wilde. In her article entitled, “Three Beautiful Perks of Being the Ugly Duckling,” Ting claims growing up ugly causes guys to treat girls as human beings, saves them from drama, and makes them more confident. However, her points lack credibility and fail to convey truth in a universal manner. Contrary to Ting’s opinion, a person who grows up “ugly” does not have advantages over a person who grows up attractive, unless they bring
The focus on a woman’s appearance reflects the idea of women being objects whose only role was to look pretty for the males around her. Also, the better a woman looked the more beautiful the couple’s children would be. Beauty reflects health.
In the first year of middle school, I was called ugly by one of my peers in school.This was one of the most insulting words ever said to me at that time. This happen to me almost daily as I was sitting at the lunch table with my friends, when out of the blue this boy would see me and the first word that came out of his mouth was, “YOU’RE UGLY”. Hearing someone call you ugly on a daily basis, you begin to start believing it's true. So, that is why I take that word seriously and recognize the destruction words can do to one's self esteem. According, to my survey I took with my family, 13 out of 15 of them have been called ugly once in there life.(survey I took 9-10-17) The Meaning of Ugly is “very unattractive” or unpleasant to look at;
First, “Beauty is only skin deep” all depends on what type of person you are. Both quotes rate directly to each other but let’s pull them apart separately. I think that ‘Beauty is only skin deep’ is expressed in many ways by people. If you are not one of those beautiful people in this world then to some people you mean nothing. When you look around a normal school you see clicks right? Well that’s what I am talking about. You see the people who express them selves by wearing darker clothes, and the people who always wear the trendy and instyle clothes. Sometimes you get jealous and say mean things because either you wished you looked like them or you want the things they have. But we were all created differently. You have to like yourself first for anyone else to like you. Relating to ‘Beauty is only skin deep’ means that people only look at what’s inside that counts. Some people believe at love at first sight, what is all that about? That means they like the person just from seeing them. So many people in this world can relate. People judge people. You look around and think by the clothes or hairstyle this girl wears that she can either not afford them or chooses to be that way. So you think she is poor. Doesn’t she deserve your attention too? I think that beauty is over rated. People need to look at your mind, your intelligence. Coming from a world where I get compliments a lot, saying that I am pretty I know what its like. I am not trying to be conceited but it’s just the truth. Being pretty is not all it’s cracked up to be. Since being pretty has got me a lot of compliments it also brings in the bad sides of things. Ultimately girls think that I am stuck up and a rich snob, If they knew me or got to know me they would hopefully think differently of me. They also think that since I am pretty that their boyfriends will like me and leave them or something, cause they get really jealous. I do not know why this is but they think I am a boyfriend stealer. When I am only interested in those limited ...
The concept of “beauty” is something that everyone feels, thinks, or wants, in order to fit society’s standards. In today’s society, we are often faced with the unrealistic ideals of what beauty is. Due to society’s constant portraying of unrealistic beauty ideals, this reinforces a negative influence upon women’s idea of beauty, resulting in a negative impact in their confidence, and self-esteem, which leads to others, specifically women to be manipulated by society’s corrupted outlook of what beauty is. To add onto this issue, we are constantly surrounded by sources of this negative influence in our everyday lives, including magazines, television, advertisements, and so on. However, women specifically, are more prone to be victims of this negative effect, thus will have more pressure upon themselves to match society’s idea of “beauty,” which includes unrealistic and sometimes unattainable beauty standards. Women especially, can sometimes be so deeply manipulated by society’s unrealistic ideals of what is beautiful, such that it’s possible that they don’t even realize it Furthermore, in order to do so, women often will receive negative impacts rather than positive impacts, such as in their confidence and self-esteem. The negative effects of society’s beauty ideals also lead women to have an overall corrupted idea of what is “beautiful.” Society creates unrealistic ideals of beauty towards women through the media by creating an unrealistic image of what women should look like to be considered beautiful. Men negatively affect women’s idea of beauty by using the unrealistic beauty standards exposed by society which further pressures women to try to fit society’s idea of what is beautiful. Beauty pageants negatively affect women’s ov...
Society has indoctrinated men and women to believe that in order to be considered “beautiful” you must look like the images on television, billboards, and magazines.
...e ability to achieve anything in life. Hopefully, readers would learn from this novel that beauty is not the most important aspect in life. Society today emphasizes the beauty of one's outer facade. The external appearance of a person is the first thing that is noticed. People should look for a person's inner beauty and love the person for the beauty inside. Beauty, a powerful aspect of life, can draw attention but at the same time it can hide things that one does not want disclosed. Beauty can be used in a variety of ways to affect one's status in culture, politics, and society. Beauty most certainly should not be used to excuse punishment for bad deeds. Beauty is associated with goodness, but that it is not always the case. This story describes how the external attractiveness of a person can influence people's behavior and can corrupt their inner beauty.
