Softball is known as the sister sport to baseball. They look very similar but are very different. Some say that baseball is a lot harder than softball and some say the complete opposite. But to form an opinion a bunch of things come into factor to try figure and figure out which side you stand on. From the size of the ball to the size of the field these things play into factor of each opinion. Both baseball and softball have qualities that set them apart and that can make one more challenging than the other at times. Comparing the size of the field as a whole is completely different. A baseball field can be from two hundred and fifty feet to four hundred feet. As for softball it is usually two hundred and fifty feet all around. And with a bigger field comes more space which is why in baseball there is ninety feet between each base. And also with all that extra space means that there is more ground to cover when a ball is hit to the outfield, making it more challenging to catch a ball. In softball everything is closer, there is only sixty feet between each base. Even though the field is smaller it will be harder to throw a runner out at first if they hit the ball in the infield because it is a shorter time frame for the runner to get to first. …show more content…
The mound is forty-three feet from the pitcher’s mound in softball and for baseball it is sixty feet. And the mounds themselves are different, in softball the pitches will throw on a flat surface and in baseball they will throw on an elevated mound. Some may argue that because the pitcher in softball is so much closer that it is a lot more dangerous because they do not have as much time to get away from a line drive hit at them then in baseball. But then some will argue that a baseball is traveling faster than the softball so the reaction time would be about the same
The big question for people who don’t play this question is really, what is softball? Softball is a little bit more modified version of baseball but softball is played on a smaller field, with a larger ball, played with 7 innings instead of 9 and with underarm pitch in a circular motion. Now that we know what the basic part of softball is let’s talk about the equipment. The equipment used to play softball is a bat about waist level give or
Softball is harder than baseball. The three main reasons are, softball players have less time to react to the ball, hitting a softball is harder than hitting a baseball. The last reason is slap hitters or left-handed hitters in softball.
While the games of baseball and softball each have many fans, many players prefer to play one or the other but not both. Although baseball and softball are similar in many ways, they have some notable differences. The pace with which each game is played, the rules of each, and the level of leagues are different for each.
The researcher has chosen to write this paper on hitting because she has played softball for twelve years and the perfect softball swing has always eluded her. The softball swing is one of the most difficult softball skills to achieve greatness in. There are a number of great hitters all with different batting stances and styles, each one comfortable to them. There are many different tactics and coaching ideas out there to help improve hitting. In fact, there are several videos now on the market to help the softball player perform better. Coaches often teach hitting drills to improve batting techniques and ability. Confidence is an important factor in hitting. If the player lacks confidence then she will not be a good hitter. Softball is not only a physical game but a mental game.
Most aspects of the games are the same. Each team has only nine players on the field at nine different positions. Each inning ends when there are three outs. Baseball generally consists of nine innings, whereas softball usually is played in seven innings. People think that softball is not as tough as baseball because they think that softball is a soft sport.
A regulation fast pitch softball, at the high school level, has the circumference of 12 inches and a weight of 6.25-7.00 ounces. The ball has a leather surface and a raised seam that makes gripping the ball easier. These dimensions are different from that of any other ball and effect the shape of a softball throw.
Now if you're anything like me, you know that when you start a sport for the first time. You have questions like my first question, “what in the world is softball”. Well now that I am a”softball”player I can tell you all there is to know about softball. Softball is a game between two teams with two sections to the field in field and outfield. There is the pitcher, the catcher, 1st,2nd,and3rd baseman, shortstop, and left, right, and center field.
I have been playing softball ever since the tee ball days. It has been a sport that I have grown to love and couldn’t imagine not playing. The way I have grown up playing softball has changed tremendously from the time it was first created in 1887 on Thanksgiving Day. The first time this game was even thought of was when a group of excited men threw a boxing glove at another man who swung a broom trying to hit the boxing glove, like a bat hitting a ball. This group of men, who were all apart of the Farragut boat club, decided they would turn this into a game of their own and softball was born.
I spend six days per week for twelve months straight practicing catching, throwing, and hitting a softball. My friends call me crazy when I have to leave their house at ten o’clock on a Friday night to go play in a midnight madness softball tournament. They think I am insane for travelling to away, out-of-state tournaments each weekend. However, ten years of competitive, travel softball and nearly nine hundred games have molded me into the person I am today. Many people do not understand why I spend the majority of my time playing competitive softball, and they fail to recognize that my entire identity is a result of this sport. However, I am aware that I would not be who I am without it.
As Paige and I walked across the field towards our team I felt euphoric. Four long years of work, sweat, and dedication had led up to this night. It was the perfect end to my senior year of softball. The scoreboard just beyond the mass of sweaty, screaming softball players read 15-0. This was the final score of the district championship game, a game my team had never won before. The applause and cheers of the fans echoed in my ears for hours afterward
Softball was just a hobby for many people until the ASA (American Softball Association) decided to change that. The ASA wanted to recognize softball as a competitive sport worldwide and be a part of the Olympic program. The ASA would continue to be a hard working organization through the ups and downs of the sport of softball. (“USA Softball”). The IOC (International Olympic Committee) would eventually help the ASA overcome its biggest obstacle and give softball its big break (“USA Softball”). The ASA would later find out the success of the U.S. team might also cripple their big break as well. The involvement of the U.S. has led to the controversy of softball being an Olympic game.
For many of those athletes who lace up their cleats, pull on a glove, and slide through dirt each year, softball has become more than a sport but a way of life, each one of them knowing that “When you step on the field, nothing else matters.” It’s not just the sport, it’s the way to go.
Baseball and football are very popular in America Sports today. Some people think that baseball is just a laid back sport and just boring then other people say football is better because it is more physical and harder and it's a man's game. But that is not true because it comes down to the mental and the physical part of the game baseball over rules all of that.
Baseball is a very well known sport and often known as “America’s pastime” and softball is highly similar, but with a few key differences. Many people just assume that the sport of baseball is more difficult than softball, but don’t actually know the specific parts of each of the two. Also, if you’ve never played one or the other sport, you shouldn’t be assuming anything at all in the first place. Although many assume one may be harder than the other, baseball and softball both have particular factors which make them both complex in their own way.
In baseball, a player is allowed to be substituted out of the game with another player. In cricket however, there are no formal substitutions. The only exception is if a fielder gets hurt or tired. This is when a twelfth man is allowed to come in and play the injured or tired until they can return (“What’s the difference” 2). Another difference between the two is the way the field is set up. The field in baseball is called a diamond (“How Baseball Works” 1) and the field in cricket is called a ground (“Cricket Rules” 1). In baseball, the players can hit the ball in the area between the two foul lines, while in cricket the player has a full 360 degrees to work with (“What’s the difference” 1). After the players hit the ball, they have to run somewhere in order to score runs. As I said earlier, both games have a pitcher and a batter. The pitcher has the job of throwing the baseball to the batter. The pitcher has to stand at the pitching mound which is 60.5 feet away from home plate. He then throws the ball to the batter who then tries to keep the ball in play so he can possibly score. Once the hitter hits the ball, and it is determined a fair ball, the
