The golden ball is an award given every year to the best football player of the moment. It is defined depending on the quality in the footballers' technic, the statistics and results of a natural year. Every year, FIFA chooses 23 candidates to win the golden ball which are supposed to be the best ones of the whole planet. According to "FIFA" These will both be reduced to 3 players for each award, being announced at a later stage. From the final shortlists, journalists, national coaches and captains will vote for the winner of the FIFA Ballon d’Or. ("FIFA Ballon d'Or 2013," 2013)
After the votes are defined, FIFA summons the three finalists to the event of the golden ball, where the best footballers, teams, coaches and journalists assist to receive their major awards. This year, the 23 candidates were defined but the 3 favorite nominees are already chosen by everyone, the best 3 footballers in the planet. The all-nations voting period will be closed until the 29th of November, so every voter will have more time to decide who is the best player and who will win, in their opinion, the golden ball of 2013. The 23 nominees include important names like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Arjen Robben, Radamel Falcao, Andres Iniesta and other players, in their majority belonging to Bayern FC, but the 3 nominees that highlight in this edition are the argentine Lionel Messi, the french Frank Ribery and the portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo.
Written by "FIFA" The winners of all of the awards will be revealed at the FIFA Ballon d’Or gala as part of a televised show at the Zurich Kongresshaus on 13 January 2014. ("FIFA Ballon d'Or 2013," 2013)

"I was born for soccer, just as Beethoven was born for music," (Pelé. Hall of Fame.) was how Edson Arantes do Nascimento described his passion for soccer. He had many nicknames – “The Black Pearl”, “The King of Fútbol”, or just simply “The King.” A newspaper was once asked, “How do you spell his name?” The paper answered the question this way, “G-O-D.” We know him as Pelé (Buckley 7).
Previously in his lifetime as a child people thought Messi was not going to become a soccer player or succeed in his dream. The day Lionel Messi became a professional soccer player, was why he became famous. In addition to Messi becoming famous, he brought attention to the people who doubted him and those who supported him. Messi has been playing soccer for almost his entire life, and his dream was to be a professional soccer player. He made that dream come true on May 1, 2005 (Caioli 337).

Having the fortitude to seize all the opportunities at hand and the resolve to work hard, even early on in life, through his medical problems, Lionel Messi has been able to outshine all others and make a name for himself as one of the best to ever play the game of football.
The amazing game of soccer is played in every continent, and is the world’s most popular sport. It is proven to be one of the number one sports to be played and watched. Because its fans and players are so devoted, the sport continues to grow. Requiring only a ball and open space, the activity is available to anyone, whether rich or poor, male or female, athletic or not. Over the years, soccer has won the hearts of many because of its unique history, many benefits, and notable achievements.
Gender equality is a vast issue even in sports today, especially women’s soccer. Women’s soccer has been overlooked and pushed aside by many people around the globe. Each year, fewer and fewer people enjoy the sport of soccer and it is having an impact on both genders, but more so on females. The decrease in people appreciating women’s soccer has led to many problems for the female players. Women soccer players should receive the same field conditions as men, play in better stadiums, and receive a better pay.
In order to be successful, failure is inevitable. When one fails, it is essential for them to practice tremendous hours to develop their skills and master their craft. In beginning of the book, Gladwell explains “The emerging picture from such studies is that ten thousand hours of practice is required to achieve the level of mastery associated with being a world-class expert in anything” (40). Messi was certainly not the best player in the world as he made a debut in the spanish league but becoming professional at the age of

When people ask what my favorite sport is, I quickly reply soccer. I never really gave much thought to who my favorite soccer player is until I saw Lionel Messi for the first time. I saw him play for Argentina and he showed me how great soccer really is. He has a great style of both teamwork and individual skill. The ability he has to keep control of the ball is what made me interested in soccer. Without him, who knows if I would even begin to enjoy soccer. He shows both individual skill and the importance of teamwork. He does not only score a ton of goals, but also gives many assists. Lionel Messi, in my opinion, is one of the greatest soccer players in history. Lionel Messi is most definitely one of my role models. Messi doesn’t only teach me how to improve on individual skill but also can show me the importance of not showing off. The soccer skill that this man has is unbelievable. Lionel Messi is a great role model.
