Automobiles are very important in today's society. They are a means of transportation and also luxury. The automotive industry is a 904 billion dollar industry.(Franco) Automobiles are everywhere and have been on every continent, they assist us in traversing long distances of land; road or no road. The designs of automobiles vary from manufacturer to manufacturer as well as their country of origin, and what country the said automobile is being sold to. There are also many different styles of automobiles and different countries, or areas tend to have a favorite automobile. The biggest problem with the majority of today’s automobiles is that they burn fossil fuels and we will eventually use up all of our fossil fuels and will need to find something else to power our beloved automobiles. Automobiles are an important part in worldwide commerce.

What exactly is an automobile? An automobile is a self-propelled vehicle that is meant to transport people; and usually has four wheels and an internal-combustion engine for transportation on land. In the year 1886, German inventor Karl Benz received a patent and then designed the Benz Patent-Motorwagen.(Bellis) This early vehicle had three wheels and a 2/3 horsepower engine and could seat two. Benz's early automobile was for transportation of people and had limited use; yet Benz's name is widely known due to Mercedes-Benz. Today there are many different classes of automobile that have a broad spectrum of uses. Automobiles can also be purposed for the transportation of goods across stretches of land. Along with this, the vehicles sold in the United States market are generally have a cheaper interior quality then those sold in Japan or Europe. Even our domestic automakers sell us lower quality vehicle interiors.
