1.1 BACKGROUND
The ability to superimpose real-time computer animation onto the real world is commonly known as augmented reality (AR). AR differs from virtual reality where it requires the real time markers for it to function. It allows merging of virtual information with the real environment to provide users with more immersive interaction with their surroundings. AR provides new experience of the real world that is unlike another computer animation that draws the users away from the real world and onto the screen (Hainich & Rolf, 2006).
The technology is still in an early stage. However the potential of AR technologies is growing rapidly, and it can be applied in various fields such as in engineering, medical, entertainment and also in education area. This research particularly interested with the possibility of utilizing AR for education, particularly for young children in science education. AR is able to stimulate new type of interactivity with virtual world. Thus is able to assist in their mental development. Students require the new stimulus to complement the conservative way of teaching and AR can provide new experience to them. According to Billinghurst (2002), the educational experience in AR is the ability to support and smoothly the transaction between two environments, which is reality and virtually.
This study aims to develop the requirement model which conceptualizes how AR could be used for supporting cognitive development in children learning environment which focused on Science subject. In order to promote new experience to students, a prototype for the assisted learning system based on AR technology has been developed. These are several factors why Science is dominates in this study and the reasons for these ...

...pter covered the problem statement, research questions, aim and sub objectives, scope, and contribution this study for student itself, teacher and community especially in education area.
The whole in Chapter 2 is a critical literature review. In this chapter, it discussed on the VR and types of VR. In addition, it also discussed on the AR area include components, display, issues, definition, differential VR and VR. This also covered that cognitive development theory, learning theory, and learing style. All reviews are followed with the implication for each topic to this study.
Following the next chapter describes the research methodology. This methodology divided into five stage process followed by main objective; theoretical study, model development, design prototype, develop prototype and model evaluate. Each stage will be briefly described in the next chapter.

Augmented Reality And Its Effects On The Real World Essays

- Augmented Reality (AR) is a variant of the Virtual Environment (VE), or Virtual Reality as it is often referred to. VE technologies fully immerse a user within an ersatz environment. While immersed, the user cannot perceive the real world around him. AR allows the user to perceive the real world, with virtual objects superimposed upon or composited within the real world. Thus, AR supplements reality instead of completely substituting it, by combining real and virtual interaction in real time which registers in 3-D....   [tags: Augmented reality, Virtual reality]

Augmented Reality Essay

- According to Oxford dictionaries, “Augmented Reality” is a technology that provides the user a computer produced image of the real world (“Augmented Reality”). A source states that augmented reality in programing language is the process of combining images and videos from the real world with computer generated data. The development of the new computers has made it possible to engage data with augmented reality. The practical uses of augmented reality started with military instruments such as real time video displays that were being used in airplanes and tanks to detect targets accurately....   [tags: Augmented Reality Essays]

Augmented Reality in the Aid of Surgery Essay

- Introduction Augmented reality (AR) is the virtual the object which is combination of 3D real environment in the real time. Computer aided surgery and medicine is one of the application areas in augmented reality (AR). In computer aided surgery and medicine visualization method is needed as a side of view from virtual world as a solution computer visualization in operation for example laparoscopic surgery. In this reviews, visualization include a display device based AR systems, head-mounted display (HMD) and stereoscopic images for generate images with new side of point view....   [tags: medicine, technology, virtual reality]

Augmented Reality Essay

- Before taking a more in depth gaze at augmented reality [AR], we must first look at the technological advancements made up until the 1990’s, when the term “augmented reality” was actually termed (Novák-Marcinčin, Kuzmiaková, & Beloushy, 2009). Virtual reality has been a major building block for the progression of augmented reality, as they use similar notions and methods. According to Craig & Sherman (2002), “The key elements in experiencing virtual reality – or any reality for that matter – are a virtual world, immersion, sensory feedback, and interactivity.” While augmented reality can be considered a relative of virtual reality, there are very important differences....   [tags: virtual reality]

Augmented Reality and The Future of Multimedia Essay

- Introduction What does “augmented reality” means. AR is the acronym for augmented reality. A rough definition of augmented is to maximize or change to a higher extent. Augmented reality, which is a type of virtual reality, basically means that the real-world environments are duplicated in a computer. A combination of reality and virtual scenes, created a composited view for the end-user which are generated by the computer. The computer with augmented reality system augments the real-world view or scene with additional information....   [tags: Technology ]

Essay about Energy Visualizations in Augmented Reality

- ABSTRACT Due to the issue of climate change, homeowners are becom- ing more aware of the need to reduce energy consumption in day-to-day life. Due to energy’s intangibility, it is not as easy as other consumable resources to measure and track. For many, the only indication of energy usage is through a monthly energy bill with single total aggregate cost. To understand their patterns of energy consumption, people re- quire an effective energy feedback for their domestic energy use. In this paper, we will focus on feedback for monitoring domestic energy consumption in augmented reality through providing visualizations of energy use at the appliance and groups of appliances in situ....   [tags: Energy ]

Augmented Reality: The Future of Virtual Technology Essay

- People try to invent more inventions to help the world and making finishing some task simpler. According to Wikipedia, in 1901, L. Frank Baum thought about an idea of creating an electronic display that stream data to real life. However, it was not popular and common between people at that time. After that, many inventors tried to develop this idea and make it a reality that is useable by people. In 1980, Steve Mann invented the first wearable computer with vision systems that people envision with....   [tags: combination of real image with virtual one]

- Obstacles to General Purpose Augmented Reality Abstract Augmented reality allows the enhancement of the real world with text, images and virtual objects. General purpose augmented reality is designed to be used continuously, as a part of everyday life. While this is potentially very powerful, it will also be very difficult to implement. Introduction Augmented reality allows the enhancement of the real world with a computer generated virtual world.
