Introduction
Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand. It has the most population. The population in Auckland city is over 1.5 million. As we know, cities with large population mean high traffic congestion.
Traffic congestion, is one of the major problems faced in the capitals and major cities in most countries. As with the increase in the growth rate, comes the growing demand for the use of transportation. This works with the response to the needs of the community.
Auckland Council established an organization known as Auckland Transport. This organization provides and maintains all transport services from roads and footpaths, to cycling, parking and public transport. One of the functions of Auckland Transport is to upgrade and develop projects and plans to provide roading networks to solve traffic congestion. One of the biggest and current projects managed by Auckland Transport is Tiverton-Wolverton upgrade.
Background
Starting from 1920, there was a huge demand for a road to connect between west Auckland and its south central suburbs. Wolverton road was built as an arterial road with plenty of benefits. Side streets that run off Wolverton road also connected other areas together.
With the recent growth of population, an upgrade for the street was required to accommodate the average of 31,400 vehicles per day.
With its previous bottleneck design, Wolverton road had many congested areas at its main intersection.
Auckland transport participated with Auckland Council and the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) for funding the Tiverton-Wolverton upgrade. It cost $30 million to upgrade this busy 2.2km what will bring many benefits for road users and who living around this area.

Car accidents pose as the second most noticeable inconvenience for commuters in Miami. In many occasions traffic accidents cause a hold-up of traffic. Take for example, the oil taker explosion on I-95 on November 6, 2006. Traffic engineers and planners need information about traffic. They need information to design and manage road and traffic system. They use the information for planning and designing traffic facilities, selecting geometric standards, economic analysis and determination of priorities. They use this to justify warrant of traffic control devices such as signs, traffic signals, pavement markings, school and pedestrian crossings. The development of every nation hinges on the effectiveness of their transportation systems. Movement of goods, services and people to and from locations is made possible by transportation systems. The importance of effective transportation systems cannot be over-emphasized. Many countries face transportation problems and my country Ghana is no exception. We all use vehicles for transportation. People usually go to their desired destination either by driving their own cars or traveling in public transportation. Actually, it might be tough to choose that which one is the best selection for people to travel. Many people choose one of them according to their comfort while traveling and both of them have advantages and disadvantages in different conditions. Public transportation and driving own car both shares differences and similarities in many aspects, such as facility, cost, and comfort as well as traffic jam and accident occurrence.
If New Zealand is to see more growth in tourism we must try and make the country more attractive to visit. More flights, low visa requirements, favorable exchange rates are all facilitators that will make New Zealand more appealing. With a high level of promotions overseas that will motivate tourists to think of our country as a destination which will be able to satisfy their needs.
