Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, also know as ADHD, is a disorder in which individuals may be hyperactive and unable to control their impulses. Children with ADHD may have trouble paying attention, managing time, being organized, setting goals, having self-esteem, and maintaining relationships which interferes with their school life. I am personally extremely interested in this disorder because some of my peers have struggled with it throughout my academic career. ADHD is the most commonly diagnosed mental disorder of children. The prevalence is estimated to be 3–6% of school-aged children. As a future educator, I will certainly have students who have ADHD or have similar symptoms. Through research, I have discovered various educational strategies for students with ADHD that include having a positive environment suitable for all learning styles, having various types of interventions, using Self-Regulated Strategy Development, and using computer technology in educational activities.
The article “Attention Deficit Hypertensive Disorder Teacher’s Counselling Module for Managing ADHD Children” defines multiple strategies for teachers who have students with ADHD. It is necessary that teachers establish an environment that is friendly to students with ADHD. It may seem as if these students are choosing to avoid their work, but in reality they lack the skills needed to complete assignments. Working with these students may be frustrating at times, but teachers must be patient and responsive. Teachers need to establish appropriate expectations for each student with ADHD. Often times, students with ADHD have low-self esteem. I did not realize that activities such as sports, volunteering, or maybe even a part-time job can help boost...

...is ADHD. In my future career as a teacher I will incorporate computers into the curriculum more often because they will help my students grow academically and behaviorally. If students with ADHD are having a difficult time maintaining their focus, I will give them the opportunity to listen to a recorded curriculum on the computer. By using headphones, it will block out most distractions.
ADHD is an extremely common disorder that can lead teachers to become very frustrated and discouraged. Through strategies such as having a positive environment suitable for all learning styles, having various types of interventions, using Self-Regulated Strategy Development, and using computer technology in educational activities will help students with ADHD succeed. In the future as an educator I will certainly use and demonstrate these knew techniques and tactics I have obtained.
