First off I really think that you should come visit Atlanta someday. It’s one of the biggest southern states in the USA. I have lived in Atlanta over 5 years, absolutely love it. Did you know Atlanta is the birth place of the Great Martin Luther King Jr? Also, Atlanta is known for the largest Aquarium in the US. Leaving Atlanta is a story of child disappearance. Tayari Jones, the author of Leaving Atlanta, grew up in this horrible time. She wrote about her experience growing up during this time, and also talked with us about it while visiting Peace College. By hearing her speak about these horrible events, it made me want to read the book even more. She also gave you a feeling as if you were there with her and experiencing the same thing. The book along with her speech gives better detail into this great mystery.

The museum I chose to visit this week was the North Carolina Museum of History located in Raleigh, North Carolina on March 13, 2014. It was a good time for this assignment because we were traveling this week to North Carolina so it made a great stop for us during our stay. Taking World Cultures has given me a new perspective on the foundation of our history and heritage. North Carolina holds a large amount of history for the United States. It was one of the original 13 colonies and was the first state to declare its independence from the British. North Carolina was known for its slave planation system to cultivate tobacco and cotton to be exported. An exhibit that I found to be interesting at the North Carolina Museum of History was The Story of North Carolina. This museum is the largest exhibit ever produced at the N.C. Museum of History. This exhibit is one that would inspire anyone new or visiting the state to experience the history of North Carolina and to develop more of an appreciation and understanding of the culture and communities.

Martin Luther King, Sr., both pastors of the Ebenezer Baptist Church. “Young M.L.” as he was called, grew up in moderately comfortable circumstances in a city that was not as oppressive of its black residents as some areas of the South, but upheld stubbornly all aspects of racial segregation (American Reformers). Introduced to segregation at a young age he attended two separate elementary schools, one that was segregated, and another, which was just for blacks. He was a good student, skipping the ninth grade, and at fifteen upon completion of his junior year at Booker T. Washington High School, he entered Atlanta’s Morehouse College.
