1. Introduction
Work related internal e-mail sometimes blurs the boundary between spoken language and written English, since it could entertain groups of people in different positions to a shared company event while proposes limited strictness on styles and formality. For example, an internal company-wide outgoing activity opinions collecting e-mail may involve both texts of grammatical intricacy and texts of spoken oriented type with only one simple sentence. .
The article observes and concludes some aspects of the used langue features of a group of problem solving internal e-mails developed by the same topic (totally 36 e-mails), which were collected in Hong Kong form the daily operation service, market data feed feeds, of the Finical and Risk Departments of Thomson Reuters Corporation, one of the world’s leading media and information firm, basing on analyzes of elements in the used langue in the perspective of metafunctions, (Haliday 2004) and discussions on their possible contributions to convey meanings and constitute texts.
According to Amrin (2004), metafunction, which originates conceptually from the approach of systemic functional grammar (Haliday), could be technically specified into three functions: ideational, interpersonal and textual. I.e. “to represent experience”, “to exchange experience” and “to organize experience”. Thus, the presented findings and discussion on used language features will be castigated mainly under the three functions.
However, though observing and analyzing with the discourse tool metafunctions and adopting face-to-face conversation measure to ensure interpretation correctness, the suggested findings in this article may in some degree lack of convincingness owing to: 1) the limited knowledge on technical field, 2) the limited knowledge of culture and communication customs Thomson Reuters Corporation, and 3) small
First, a brief background in the three dimensions of language discussed throughout this paper. The functional, semantic, or thematic dimensions of language as previously mentioned are often used in parallel with each other. Due, to this fact it is important to be able to identify them as they take place and differentiate between these dimensions i...

The Federal Constitution is a short document which only consists of approximately 7,000 words. The founders wanted it to be short for several reasons:(1) It's meant to be only be a framework for a new government. Basically, Constitution as merely a guideline for how the government should behave.Nowhere does the Constitution read as merely suggested, everything written in it seems pretty definitive, especially about what Congress should and should not do. (2) The founders were ,also framers of the Constitution, practitioners of centuries-old common law. As known, common law legal system is characterized by case law, which is law developed by judges through decisions of courts and similar tribunals. The founders were steeped in incremental change by the judiciary and they believed that, with the careful interpretation by the judiciary, the document they drafted would be flexible over time. It would adapt to changes they could not anticipate. That is precisely why the Constitution is so short.

As part of the organization process, one must know why one is writing the message and what one is hoping to achieve. In addition, one must know the purpose of the message and who the audience will be as well as their potential response. Writing the message with the audience in mind will not only help shape the style of the message itself but the tone in which it is presented as well as the formality of the language used. Tone is the main t...
The average worker spends two-thousand and eighty hours a year at their place of employment. Communication within the workplace is often overlooked or not given as much importance as most people should allow, given the amount of time that is spent there. Beyond the more basic verbal speech, one must be aware of the nonverbal symbols and noise that can have an effect on communication. There are also cultural, environmental and internal factors that can effect communication and how successful it can be. The various perceptions that an individual has developed over their life can also effect communication. One’s ability to communicate effectively will determine the success and enjoyment that is to come from their job.
Email, instant messaging, text messaging, network software, web logs, and video conferencing are all types of electronic communication that businesses use frequently (Robbins & Judge, 2009). Emails in particular are a type of electronic communication that all businesses use. Unlike personal face-to-face communication upward, downwards, or laterally, the person who is trying to convey meaning has to pay extra attention to the language he uses in the email (Gimenez, 2006). The ever changing business environment and expansion of international and national business has also made email incredibly important. Businesses that are all across the United States have the issue of time zones to compete with. A simple email can now take the place of what once was a face-to-face conversation or phone call (Gimenez, 2006). This is even more important with international businesses who live in different time zones and speak different languages. All employees should be very careful when sending emails to communicate upwards, downwards, or laterally. It should be noted that even though email is convenient and efficient for many things, it will never fully replace face-to-face communication and it will never be quite as effective as face-to-face
Everything we do in our life involves communication because it is a way for a sender to send message to the receiver by verbal and non-verbal communication. However, in some parts of the world messages that are delivered sometimes are not received in a way it is supposed to. A way to solve this is by using competent communicator and intercultural communication because it makes it easier for people from other cultures to communicate in general. On the other hand, there are also some problems faced because different cultures have different ways to express their way of communication. By understanding these types of communication and by defining them may solve this dilemma. In addition to that, there are also types of communication to consider that are commonly used, which is Proxemics, Gestures and body language.
Next, we shall evaluate the key features of language which are; communicative, arbitrary, structured, generative, and dynamic. Communicative, language can allow one to interact with another. According to Willingham (2007), the bond found with the elements in language and what they mean is arbitrary. The way language is set up shows how the symbols are not arbitrary. The set up language shows precisely how intricate it can be. Generative, one is able to build countless number of meanings from words. Dynamic, language never stays the same, therefore it can be known as sporadic. According to Willingham (2007), changes are being made all the time as new words get added and as the ways of grammar change. These elements can be quite critical when it comes to language.
Communication is important in life. Companies need to communicate with other companies and customers. The managers also need to communicate with the staff. The technology provides us with many means of communication, the most important of which is e-mail.
Language development and understanding is essential to living and learning. It is the way by which humans interact and communicate, defines how and what one thinks, and provides knowledge and meaning to human existence. Language is variable and can be communicated in various forms that are seen and heard; from speech and writing to gestures, symbols, and music. While some forms of language such as mathematical codes or academic writing have universal standards, a language, in general, is diverse, and varies between country, community, social class, age, religion and so on. Effective communication is therefore dependent upon social convention, and a mutual understanding of context and purpose. Despite these complexities, a firm
In this week class we discussed how language affects intercultural business communication. We understand the barriers connected with language in different cultures, written and spoken communication. In doing international business, it is crucial that we speak and understand the common language. English is the universal language for business (Chaney & Martin, 2014). Without this shared language people will have difficulties comprehending messages. It is always a fun class discussion whenever we talk about different languages especially when we give funny examples in translating words from other language to English like “Because you are dangerous you must not enter,” “Please do not empty your dog here.” It is a very good reminder that it is important
It is to believe that with these modern technologies communication is made easier because individuals can communicate in a faster and more efficient way (Jones, 2012). Email, as one of the most common form of communication among workplaces, business or academic settings, enables instant communication and fast speed of message disseminating without having the need to gather everyone together. On top of that, technology has helped to make communication more accessible in terms of long-distance communication. Compare to the early days where the only form of long-distance communication is mailing, it can now be done through the use of computer, tablets and mo...
With the advent of international organisations there has been an increasing demand to concentrate on a language easily intelligible to the international community. The global high tech industry is characterized by extreme competitiveness, innovation and widespread use of English. In a global economy with an intensely competitive market any negative publicity about the language proficiency of a particular organisation can be detrimental to its growth. Consequently, high-tech companies require engineers who are talented both in engineering and communicative abilities. In the engineering arena, each field has its own set of jargons and Engineers face numerous communicative events which include highly frequent writing and reading...
