Macbeth: Downfall Due to Ambition and Human Weakness
William Shakespeare through one of his most well known plays
portrays a tragic downfall of a king through his ambition and human
weakness. Shakespeare develops the play Macbeth by showing the changes in
the protagonist and the effects others have on him.
Shakspeare's use of detail helps to show the changes in Macbeth
through a gradual process. Before actually completing his horrendous act
of killing the much loved King Duncan, Macbeth suffers mental conflict
"having no spurs to prick the side of my intent" between the "vaulting
ambition which leaps over itself and falls on the other" and the "deep
damnation of his (Duncan's) taking off." At this point in time, scene 7 of
the first act, Macbeth exposes sensitivity and knowledge of what he may do
is wrong. Possibly the one time when the reader can relate to Macbeth the
best, it is seen that he is very hesitant of his action, but what over
takes him is the human flaw of ambition. As time progresses and
Shakespeare shows Macbeth's initial "fear" of Banquo; but as his mind
becomes engulfed in the his best friends murder he label's him as "your
enemy" and making sure that he is left "no rubs nor botches in the work"
Macbeth is obviously afraid of experiencing the same emotional trauma of
his first murder. Although he think he is solving his problems, his
damnation is ever progressing by making being indirectly involved in the
murder of his one time best friend and father of a line of kings. The
reader sees how ones desire for self - power can destroy himself completely.
Shakespeare's diction through other characters in the play also
help to portray Macbeth's break down. In the beginning, when Macbeth still
depicts his sensitivity and morality, Lady's Macbeth almost forces Macbeth
to do the deed calling him a "coward in thine own esteem", mocking him
saying, "you durst do it then you were a man," and comparing him to "a baby
that milks me." Lady Macbeth serves as on of Macbeth's contrasting
characters. It is with her biting tougne that Macbeth is inspired to
achieve his ambition in becoming king. In the beginning of the play with
the three weird sisters the first idea introduced is their meeting with
Macbeth "when the battles lost and won."; upon this meeting, macbeth pleads,
"tell me more you imperfect sisters;" later on one of the witches chimes,
"by the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes." Through
the witches' characters, the peculiar chants, the reader knows the power
As much as Tea Cake had the qualities Janie was looking for she found a greater understanding of herself as a women besides her love. Janie was inexperienced at the start of her adventure, learned that love will not always come from promises, and had major reflection when she finished her first marriage with Joe that she went into with assurance. Janie was able to get a glimpse of independency after Joe died which is conveyed through the quote “Besides she liked being lonesome for a change. This freedom feeling was fine” (Hurston 90). Before meeting, Tea Cake Janie was able to understand that she was comfortable with not searching for love. However, Tea Cake was a reminder to her that her ideals of love were still out in the world. He was able to make Janie happy from doing things fun and childish and these activities like fishing during the knight, or playing chess were the things that society would not accept for a women like Janie. The first major instance when Tea Cake helped Janie go against society was when he played chess with her. While a small act to some readers, Janie found the act enormous in her eyes as it showed her that Tea Cake was a man able

Macbeth's Downfall in William Shakespeare's Play 'Macbeth' by William Shakespeare is a play set in 1040 about a Scottish general named Macbeth. It explores the transformation and effect of his ambition upon his life. Although it is set in 1040, it is written in the 1606 under the reign of James 1st. James' very recent accession to the English throne would have been of great contemporary importance and a play which focuses on Kingship would have roused interest too.
scene III, he admits to himself that he feels no remorse for what he has done, saying, ?But,
The novel Their Eyes Were Watching God follows a young woman named Janie living in the 1920’s. Written by Zora Neale Hurston, Janie’s character is mostly developed through her three marriages, to three very different guys, at three different times in her life. As Janie struggles to find a meaning of true love, as well as true love itself, we see her blossom in many different ways. The three men who are basis of this transformation are Logan Killicks, Joe Starks, and TeaCake. Each man has a specific effect on Janie, who is an African American women raised by her old school grandmother.
... of all time, with a protagonist that is plagued with indecision, but spurred by a desire to avenge his father’s death. At the time of the play’s writing, religion was by far the largest influence on the lives of ordinary people, and the protagonist’s defiance of God for most of the play could only end in tragedy.
Henry David Thoreau once said, “Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves.” This excerpt of wisdom is prevalent in the journey of Janie Mae Crawford, the protagonist in Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God. Janie spends the entirety of the novel searching for love and companionship, and on the way she discovers her truest self. When she finally determines her own identity, she realizes that she is a strong, independent woman of color who can defy the stereotypical standards placed upon women in the early 1900s. Although she initially allowed others to place restrictions on her based on her gender and race, she overcame these boundaries and understood that she did not have to conform to the expectations of others. The most apparent theme of this novel portrays that in order to for one to understand themselves in the realest and most raw fashion, they must encounter a number of instances that shape who they are as an individual.
Janie’s three marriages were all different, each one brought her in for a different reason, and each one had something different to teach her. In summary, she married Logan because of her grandmother, Jody because she wanted to escape from Logan, and Tea Cake because they had true love. The marriages were different in that Logan treated Janie like a Slave, Joe was moulding her into what he wanted her to be, and Tea Cake just wanted to be with her. As a result, Janie learned many things from each marriage Tea Cake taught her to be herself and do what she wanted to, her marriage with Logan taught her to make changes in her life, and her marriage with Joe taught her to stand up for herself. In conclusion, her experiences in her marriages shaped her into the person she became, and were an important part of her life.
Nanny chooses Logan Killicks for her granddaughter simply because he has sixty acres of land on the main road. Nanny believes that this would provide Janie with the added security needed to be a black woman during the time in which the novel is set.
tried with King Laius to kill their son, and had no respect for the prophecies
Through her three marriages, the death of her one true love, and proving her innocence in Tea Cake’s death, Janie learns to look within herself to find her hidden voice. Growing as a person from the many obstacles she has overcome during her forty years of life, Janie finally speaks her thoughts, feelings and opinions. From this, she finds what she has been searching for her whole life, happiness.
MacBeth is Responsible for His Downfall. There were many wrongs committed in "MacBeth." But who should bear the major responsibility for these actions? The witches prophesying the truth? Lady MacBeth's scheming and persuasion?
The problem of juvenile violence has become one of the most overwhelming problems of our time for Texas and for the United States. The problem is spread throughout the United States. The serious crimes are usually thought to be problems of the urban city, but this is no longer a problem just for the inner city. The problem has spread through the suburban areas of the city in cases just like the first example. Citizens are spending tons of money trying to fight the problem on their own. They purchase everything they can to combat crime. Women have mace, cars have alarms, houses have burglar bars and alarms, and many schools have metal detectors to try to control the overwhelming effects of violence (Defending 93). However, these efforts are not enough to overcome the effects of violence, such as man pictured below with an automatic weapon in the streets of his neighborhood (Gest p.29). All jail and court information leads to the outcome that there is a wide diversity of criminals in jail. There is no longer a predictable profile for a juvenile criminal. However, most of the criminals still come from the inner city. Due to a 21% estimated rise in the number of 15 to 19 year olds by the year 2005, the problem will get worse without a better plan. The American juvenile justice system is supposed to be the system that prevents juveniles form committing crimes, but the system was designed over 100 years ago to prevent minor crimes from occurring (LaCoya 12/2/94). The current system in Texas and throughout most of the United States allows juveniles to receive a less severe penalty than an adult who is convicted of the same crime. The current Texas system does not allow juveniles to be prosecuted as an adult until they are eighteen unless...
